New and Transfer Student Orientation is an opportunity to connect with your future classmates, prepare for academic and co-curricular life, and gain additional tools to navigate the college prior to commencing your fall classes. These sessions serve as an introduction to the College and can help you answer your questions about the incoming student process.

Welcome to SUNY Westchester Community College. We are excited to have you join our diverse, inclusive, academically challenging, and student-centered college community. We understand that transitioning to our community and the college way of life may be both new and at times strenuous. That is why we have developed New and Transfer Student Orientation. During this opportunity, you will learn the ins and outs of being a successful student here at SUNY WCC. You will also gain a stronger understanding of the academic experience and both the value and opportunities for getting involved within our community. All first-time, full-time students who are new to SUNY Westchester Community College are REQUIRED to participate in and complete New and Transfer Student Orientation.
New and Transfer Student Orientation Sessions:

- Tuesday, August 15 at 9:30 a.m. at SUNY Westchester Valhalla

Virtual Session:
- Tuesday, August 15 at 5:30 p.m.
This virtual session is ONLY for evening and/or online students
Family Orientation:
- Tuesday, August 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Space is limited for each session. Register for a New and Transfer Student Orientation session as soon as possible.
Note: If you do not register for and attend one of the above Orientation sessions you will miss invaluable information related to your student success. You may also experience a series of restrictions on registering for future classes and accessing college transcripts.

Summer Orientation is an opportunity to connect with your future classmates, prepare for academic and co-curricular life, and gain additional tools to navigate the college prior to commencing your fall classes.
During your Orientation session, current SUNY WCC students known as Orientation Leaders, will serve as your host and guide throughout this experience. They will lead you through a series of engaging experiences among a small group of your peers, as you interact with one another and participate in a variety of fun and informative activities. During this time, you will learn of the college’s resources, supports, opportunities for involvement and personal development, the responsibilities you have as a student, and explore the rich academic experience you can enjoy as you progress toward your degree completion.

Requirements
All first-time, full-time students who are new to Westchester Community College for spring, are REQUIRED to register for and complete a New and Transfer Student Orientation.
New and Transfer Student Winter Orientation: Welcome Sessions
New and Transfer Student Winter Orientation is a two-hour experience designed to successfully transition you the student to the college. These Welcome Sessions are designed for all new and transfer, first-time, and full-time students to learn about their resources, opportunities, responsibilities, student rights, and the ins and outs of being successful at our college.
Online Orientation
New and Transfer Student Orientation is a two-part experience packed full of valuable information and engaging experiences. The first part involves a live video conferencing opportunity in which new and transfer students get to connect with WCC administrators, faculty, staff and students in a comfortable and welcoming environment. The second is a self-guided online experience via our Online Orientation Module.
Below are the steps to log into and complete the Online Orientation Module. Note: The Online Orientation Module is ONLY made available during the third week of August.
STEPS to Login and Complete Online Orientation:
- Go to mywcc.sunywcc.edu.
- Login using your MYWCC user ID and password.
- Once you log in, click on the WCC Online Orientation tile.
- Proceed with completing Online Orientation. Upon completion of the module you will receive a certificate. No need to email us the certificate, we will receive your information through your login credentials. However, screenshot the certificate in case we request it at a later date.

Note: If you have an Orientation Hold on your student account, it will be automatically lifted within 24 to 48 hours of your having completed the Online Orientation Module.

Online Orientation Login Tips
- Ensure that your browser allows pop-ups. (turn off popup blocker/allow popups from mywcc).
- When the popup blocker blocks a page there is a red icon somewhere on the browser's toolbar. Click on that icon and choose "allow popups from sunywcc".
- Clear the browser's cache. There are instructions on the mywcc page on how to do this.
- If you are still unable to login try a different browser.
- If all of the above does not work contact getinvolved@sunywcc.edu and we will assist you.
Family Orientation
In addition to the New and Transfer Student Orientation for all first-time, full-time, new, and transfer students, we have developed Family Orientation as an optional experience for the family members (parents, guardians, relatives, partners, etc.) of SUNY WCC students. This experience allows family members the opportunity to learn more about what services, supports and opportunities are available to their students. It is also an excellent time to gain a stronger understanding of some of the new responsibilities and challenges their students may encounter.
Family Orientation is a formal and panel-centered discussion that grants the family members of SUNY WCC students an abundance of information regarding the support of their students, the availability of valuable college resources, and the overall student experience.Upcoming Orientation Sessions:

Q: When is New and Transfer Student Orientation offered?
A. We offer summer sessions for all incoming fall semester students and winter sessions for our incoming spring semester students. Visit www.sunywcc.edu/new-student-orientation to access Orientation Registration and available dates.
Q. How do I sign up to attend?
A. Visit www.sunywcc.edu/new-student-orientation to access Orientation Registration. Keep in mind that space is limited during each session. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q. How do I meet the New and Transfer Student Orientation requirement?
A. At the moment, this requirement must be met by completing two experiences. First, by attending a Welcome session and second by completing the self-guided online module.
Q. How do I complete the self-guided online module?
A. Directions for how to login to and complete the online module will be shared during one of the upcoming Welcome sessions.
Q. Where will New and Transfer Student Orientation be held during the COVID-19 pandemic?
A. The College has announced a number of measures to protect the health and safety of our community from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), including suspending all College-sponsored on-campus events and gatherings until further notice.
During this time, New and Transfer Student Orientation will take place virtually via video conferenced welcome sessions and a self-guided online experience.

Q. How long is New and Transfer Student Orientation?
A. Winter welcome sessions are a 2 hour and 15 minute experience.
Summer welcome sessions will vary based on whether we are on or off campus.
Students need to participate in the entire session. Please make arrangements in advance.
Q. Can I bring my parents or children?
A.Orientation sessions are intended for WCC students. However, we do offer live Family Orientation sessions during the week of our summer sessions and a self-guided Family Orientation during Winter Orientation. Family Orientation is a separate and unique program that does NOT meet the New and Transfer Student Orientation requirement. The presentations are geared for adults who want to learn more about the College and ways in which they can support their student. Children are discouraged from attending and or participating.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing with comfortable closed-toed shoes.
Q. What sort of activities will I participate in?
A. New students will participate in a variety of fun and informative activities that are held during interactive speeches and engaging workshops.
