Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Viking Excellence – January 20, 2023
January 20, 2023
Colleagues,
Happy New Year! 2023 promises to be a productive year of action that will strengthen SUNY Westchester Community College’s position as a premier teaching and learning institution as we remain among the most affordable gateways to higher education, skills training, and workforce development that improves lives, families, and communities. Our Middles States Self-Study is one of several processes that will outline our strengths and opportunities for improvement in retaining current students, identifying new markets, expanding educational products, nurturing and increasing partnerships, and deploying success initiatives.
Thanks for all you are doing during this critical time in our semester to welcome new and continuing students. Please be mindful of support services we have in place for students who may need tutoring, counseling, mental health services, or any other support. Additionally, we thank Student Involvement for the myriad Viking Days activities and programs planned for the remainder of the month and beyond. Please be sure to watch your email and check the website Event Calendar for the latest information to share with students as part of our commitment to build connection and belongingness within our college community.
A great place for students to start to learn about all we offer at WCC is at the annual Involvement Fair, which showcases our more than 40 clubs and organizations and provides an opportunity for students to meet their peers and student leaders. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, January 25, from 11 am to 1 pm in the Student Center Cafeteria and Event Room. Please consider stopping by to support our students and to learn more about our programs.
To end this first week of the spring 2023 semester, a huge congratulations to SUNY Westchester Community College for being named a finalist for the American Association of Community Colleges 2023 Awards of Excellence, in the category of Student Success. Winners will be announced in April. In the meantime, here is an article from Community College Daily announcing finalists. Thanks to Eve Larner and the team that worked on the application, data, and documentation – and to each of you who tirelessly deliver excellence in all you do for the college.
Have a safe, healthy and productive semester!
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
