Important Message on COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing
The following is a message to all employees and students from the Westchester Community College Pandemic Response Team.
As we approach the end of the Fall Semester and are preparing for the Spring Semester, we continue to face changes in global, national, state-wide, local and institutional pandemic conditions that require all of us to remain vigilant with our safety protocols. COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and surveillance testing, and indoor mask-wearing are critical safety measures that we must continue to follow as we increasingly work and learn together in person on College property.
With the most recent increase in COVID-19 positivity rates and the emergence of the Omicron variant, in addition to the COVID-19 weekly testing requirement for the unvaccinated members of the college community, we are now augmenting our COVID-19 surveillance testing by calling upon all vaccinated employees and students that come onto College property for any reason whatsoever to voluntarily be tested for COVID-19 at least once each month as a part of the College’s testing program at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla.
If it will be your first time scheduling a testing appointment at Westchester Medical Center, please call (914) 909-6754 and a representative will schedule your appointment along with setting up your patient portal account. When contacting the Westchester Medical Center, make certain to identify yourself as a Westchester Community College student or employee so your appointment can be scheduled according to the College’s testing plan. If you are already registered with the Westchester Medical Center you can use its MyCare online portal https://wmchealth.iqhealth.com/ to make a testing appointment.
In addition to our call for voluntary COVID-19 testing for vaccinated employees and students, we are reminding all employees of the college, regardless of whether they currently come onto college property, that they must report their vaccine status to the College. Accordingly, all college employees that have not already reported their vaccine status through CastleBranch are required to immediately do so by going to this unique web address: https://portal.castlebranch.com/YW05.
Students who have not already reported their vaccination status to the College may also do so by following the vaccine reporting instructions for students found here: https://www.sunywcc.edu/student-services/health-services/covid-info/.
Lastly, we strongly encourage all members of the Westchester Community College community to become fully vaccinated and get a vaccine booster shot as soon as you are eligible to receive it. There is increasing evidence that vaccinations, mask-wearing while indoors, handwashing, and appropriate social distancing are reducing the negative effects of COVID-19 and contributing to the safety of our college community. We invite you to review the New York State Department of Health vaccine efficacy information and data found here: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-breakthrough-data.
Important Update from PRT
Effective Monday, March 28, 2022, the wearing of a mask/face covering on Westchester Community College property (indoors and outdoors and not including the Virginia Marx Children’s Center) is optional.
The College fully supports the choices of individuals to wear a mask on College property at their own discretion or based upon their own circumstances. No member or members of the College community may require another member or members to wear a mask while on College property.
This mask optional change is being made based upon the current COVID-19 conditions at the College and in our county and state and together with the most recent guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, New York State Department of Health, State University of New York, and Westchester County Department of Health. For more information on how to access this public data please watch this video and visit the links in the comments.
At any time and in the event that the College’s Pandemic Response Team (PRT) determines there is an adverse change to the current COVID-19 conditions or related changes are made to the federal, state, and/or local guidance, the College may, among other things, reinstitute the mask/face covering requirement for all indoor spaces.
Important Updates regarding Spring 2022
As we prepare for the first day of classes, we have been assessing our health and safety measures to maintain the well-being of everyone in our community. We have two important updates to share regarding the spring 2022 semester.
- With few exceptions, spring 2022 courses scheduled to begin in January will convene remote-only for the first two weeks. Unless otherwise indicated by the professor, courses scheduled in-person will meet on campus beginning January 31, 2022. All student services are available both in person and remotely during this time. WCC is taking this step to facilitate a safe and smooth expanded return to in-person classes and student activities during the spring semester.
- Upon review of unit operational needs and on a case-by-case basis, management may approve employee flexible work arrangements until January 31, 2022. Employees should consult with their supervisors for more information. Wherever possible, managers will maintain limited in-person staffing levels, as appropriate, to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
For more information, please visit our web pages on COVID safety protocols, required vaccinations and boosters for students coming to campus, and general surveillance testing program information.

Pandemic Response Team Update Regarding Safety Protocols
Hello Westchester Community College Community,
As we move forward and begin to transition from a pandemic to an endemic, the College’s Pandemic Response Team continues to closely review the available key metrics, conditions and external guidance to inform our decisions about the COVID-19 safety protocols for our institution.
Since the onset of the Pandemic, the Pandemic Response Team has operated pursuant to the College’s Pandemic Preparedness Plan and, subsequently, the Pandemic Recovery Plan, both found here. As the pandemic evolved, the College responded accordingly. Most recently, the College has lifted its mask/face covering mandate. The abatement of the COVID-19 virus and easing of restrictions allows us to move into the final phase of our Pandemic Recovery Plan, which means that we are now able to revert to our pre-pandemic standard operating procedures with a return to full on-campus operations.
Nonetheless, the College will permanently maintain the following protocols:
- Employees must always display their college identification when in public spaces on college property;
- Frequent cleaning and sanitizing of occupied spaces; and
- Enhanced indoor air quality implementation and maintenance.
The College will maintain the following protocols until further notice:
- Employees will continue to report their vaccination status via the Attestation Form and will no longer be required to utilize CastleBranch to report their vaccination status;
- Employees who test positive for COVID-19 are required to report same to Human Resources;
- Students will continue to be required to be fully vaccinated, or else have an approved medical or religious exemption, as set forth by SUNY policy;
- Students who test positive for COVID-19 are required to report same to the Health Office;
- Employees and students who come onto College property and are not fully vaccinated must continue to take a weekly COVID-19 PCR test in accordance with the College’s surveillance testing policy; and
- Installed protective barriers will remain in locations involving close work proximities, customer service counters, and other high traffic service areas.
Update on WCC COVID Protocols
The United States, New York State and Westchester County are all seeing decreasing rates of COVID spread and resulting hospitalizations. WCC’s Pandemic Response Team (PRT) is carefully evaluating these trends and recommendations from health authorities, SUNY, and the NYS Governor’s Office and is determining any appropriate changes to our COVID protocols while maintaining a safe teaching and learning environment.
Until any revisions are communicated, our current protocols are still in effect. These include:
- Wearing a mask while indoors, except when eating or alone in a private space
- Being compliant with WCC’s vaccination requirements
- Participating in required testing protocols, as applicable for the unvaccinated and un-boosted
Details of these requirements and guidelines are available here.
We welcome input from our community via email to info@sunywcc.edu.
Respectfully,
PRT
An Important Message from PRT
Dear WCC Employee,
Before the holiday break, in an attempt to obtain an accurate baseline assessment of COVID-19 exposure among the College workforce, and in anticipation of the now formal SUNY guidance for COVID-19 surveillance testing of all (vaccinated and unvaccinated) employees who will be on campus in the Spring Semester, the College asked all employees to COVID-19 test at our partnering facility, Westchester Medical Center (WMC), in the first two weeks of the New Year.
The rapid spread of the Omicron strain has generated high demand for testing and simultaneous staffing shortages at WMC resulting in limited opportunities to secure testing appointments, on occasion. Increased use of the online appointment system and WMC’s ability to adjust staffing levels has already eased some of the post-holiday bottleneck experienced early this week. Nevertheless, the college recognizes the benefits of broadening access to testing as well as the need for testing at varied times. Here are some important testing related updates:
- Per existing guidelines, all unvaccinated employees who are coming to campus MUST continue to be PCR COVID-19 tested weekly at WMC, unless otherwise approved by Human Resources.
- We encourage all College employees to be PCR COVID-19 tested at least 3 days prior to the start of the Spring semester, which begins on January 18. Any employee who receives a positive COVID test result should report this result to Submit Proof of COVID Testing.
- We encourage all employees who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or who have been exposed to someone with a positive COVID-19 test result to get tested. Positive COVID test results should be reported to Submit Proof of COVID Testing.
- Employees may still get tested at WMC at no cost to them.
- Employees may test at a site other than WMC. However, expenses incurred at non-WMC sites will not be eligible for reimbursement from the College. To find a testing location near you, visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/find-test-site-near-you. Positive COVID test results should be reported to Submit Proof of COVID Testing.
- In accordance with SUNY requirements, we are developing a surveillance testing plan (to be announced) for ongoing monitoring of COVID-19 in our environment for all employees including those already vaccinated. Available vaccines are lessening COVID-19's impact, and we encourage eligible individuals to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as they can. The forthcoming plan will be announced once completed and approved by SUNY.
The PRT constantly monitors COVID-19 developments, reviews guidance as it becomes available from federal, state, and local health authorities, makes adjustments, and communicates accordingly. We thank those employees who have already tested and those who will test at WMC in the first two weeks of 2022 and throughout the spring semester.
