Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Pride – June 11, 2021
June 11, 2021
Colleagues,
Throughout the month of June, Viking celebrations and achievements continue to abound. Westchester Community College celebrates Pride Month with our LGBTQIQ+ community as part of our ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion. This commitment was recognized through our four-star rating in the national Campus Pride Index, the second highest score of any community college in the U.S., as well as our recent recognition as the 4th most affordable LGBTQIQ+ friendly institution in the country.
Pride celebrations this month will feature various special guests who provide words of wisdom and encouragement, historical insight, and a multitude of resources available to our college community. In case you miss any of these celebrations, be on the lookout for event recordings, along with information on other collaborative DEI efforts. In the meantime, here is an article that you can read about making the workplace more LGBTQ-friendly.
I hope you had opportunity last week to attend some of the Beacon Conference. This highly acclaimed showcase of scholarly talent by community college students from the Mid-Atlantic region challenges and extends student learning through research and presentation skills. Please join me in congratulating all our Westchester Community College Beacon Scholars and participating faculty and particularly the following students, who were named Panel Award Winners in their respective categories:
