Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Giving Thanks-November 27, 2019
November 27, 2019
Every day, in big ways and small, your dedication to our students is on display. This week we recognize Student Support Services for hosting our annual Thanksgiving Take-Home Dinner event. This year’s event was especially meaningful – 251 turkey dinners with all of the trimmings were distributed to students and staff in need. A truly collaborative event, members of the WCC Foundation Board, WCC Staff Council Helping Hands, faculty, staff, and students assisted the Student Support Services team throughout the day.
Additionally, a health insurance navigator was on site to assist students and others with insurance needs, and representatives from the Human Resources departments of both DeCicco & Sons and ShopRite were present with applications for job-hunting students. A very special thanks to the WCC Foundation for helping to sponsor this event, to ShopRite and DeCicco & Sons for their generous donations, for college and community resources, and so much more.
Kudos also to Josh Gaccione, Sofia Piñeiro, and Travis Melby for coordinating this special event. Two hundred and fifty-one families will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal because of the dedication of our college and community friends. Wow!
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, this act of service is among many things for which we are thankful. At the center of all we do, our students and their success drive our work. I am so thankful to work, collaborate, create learning experiences, and assist students in achieving their academic goals with such a dynamic, committed, and mission-driven community as we have here at Westchester Community College.
On a final note, please remember the families, loved ones, and friends of those we have lost this year and all who may be mourning the loss of loved ones at this time.
From my family to yours, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
