Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Connections & Community – October 11, 2019
October 11, 2019
Colleagues,
Yesterday, WCC Foundation Outreach Committee members and I welcomed New York State Senator Peter B. Harckham (40th Senate District) to campus to discuss partnership opportunities in support of our student success goals. Later in the day, I joined the WCC President’s Ad Hoc Committee on Women’s Educational Opportunity for a lovely Tea to welcome new women faculty to the college. Prof. Patti Sehulster led committee members in orchestrating this wonderful occasion for camaraderie, introspection, and shared learning which also featured guest speaker Antoinette Klatzky of the Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute. I ended the day attending the annual meeting of the Business Council of Westchester where MGM International CEO Jim Murren relayed a broad vision for a comprehensive new MGM entertainment project in Yonkers.
These events, among so many of our myriad engagements, convey the range of opportunities we have to learn more, improve ourselves, showcase our innovative programs, and advocate for our institution on a daily basis. Each of us can be an ambassador for the college and our various programs. Thank you for the new and continuing connections you make to strengthen our capacity to serve our students and community.
The recent eLearning Employee Compliance Training program offered through Human Resources and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on sexual harassment and bullying provides an opportunity to demonstrate our joint commitment to each other and to a work environment conducive to our mutual development and the development of our students. Our results to date do not adequately reflect this commitment. Committing to a safe and respectful workplace requires intentionality and New York State requires this training be completed annually. If you have not yet completed the web-based training, please do so as soon as possible. The email reminder is from no-reply@enterprisetraining.com and notes Employee Compliance Training 2019.
Finally, save the date for the Strategic Planning Town Hall – Thursday, October 17, 4:00 – 6:00 pm (Common Hour) in the Davis Auditorium, Gateway Center. All members of the college community are invited to participate as we move from planning to action, consider our roles, and continue our work on the guide that will lead us into our future.
