Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Honoring Legends, Legacies, and Learning
February 2, 2018
Colleagues,
This week it was my pleasure join the college’s Black History Month celebration, which featured U.S. Army veteran Asha Castleberry as keynote. Her words, and the entire calendar of events, are inspiring. Please consider encouraging your students to attend one or more of the planned events posted on the website calendar.
I also attended the American Heart Association’s #GoRedforWomen Leadership Breakfast this morning, which brings awareness to women’s health issues. Attending community events and meetings fosters opportunities for the college and our students such as potential internships and applied learning experiences, new high school partnerships, and philanthropy from businesses and individuals. I thank those of you who proudly represent Westchester Community College in your interactions with the public on behalf of our students.
Yesterday we received the difficult news of the passing of our dear friend and college trustee, David Swope. I have received some of the most gracious and heartfelt messages honoring David’s life. His fresh perspectives and positive outlook serve as a guide as we model David’s unconditional commitment to our students, employees, and everyone in the community. I share his obituary for our fond remembrances.
As I reflect upon the many feelings and emotions of the week, I thank you for your commitment to our students, to each other, and to our mission.
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
