Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: February 7, 2020
February 7, 2020
Colleagues,
Thanks to all who worked so diligently to enroll students for the spring semester – especially students who are close to completing degree or certificate requirements. Yesterday, we reached 3,845.6 FTEs, just over 94% of our spring 2020 target. There is still time for students to register for spring classes at the Port Chester Extension site (classes begin February 11) and for the second 7.5-week session on the Valhalla campus (classes begin March 23). Our Workforce Development and Community Education division also contributes FTEs to the college through many of their offerings, so please make referrals there, as well.
The Strategic Enrollment team is already at work preparing for summer and fall 2020 enrollments. We all can play a role in attracting new students to Westchester Community College and encouraging former students or those with some college/no degree to join us and become finishers. Let’s keep this top of mind in the coming months!
It was my honor to participate in the kick-off of our college Black History Month celebration. This year’s committee, co-chaired by Serena Chamblee and Garrett McAlister, has organized several terrific events at both the main campus and the extension locations. These activities provide an opportunity for us to engage with students and extend learning beyond the classroom. Check the Event calendar on the website for upcoming Black History Month celebrations and related events. Most importantly, please share these opportunities with students so that they are aware.
The 75th Anniversary committee met this week to begin planning events to commemorate this momentous occasion. Check your email and the website as events are announced. We will be reaching out to targeted groups to round out committee representation. Also, if you would like to volunteer, notify Alexandra Giusto via email (Alexandra.giusto@sunywcc.edu). In the meantime, thank you to those who have already joined this special team.
Finally, please SAVE THE DATE for the State of the College address: Thursday, February 27, 4:00 PM, Davis Auditorium, Gateway Center. All members of the college community are invited to attend.
