Last week, I was excited to share a lovely photo of colleagues adorned in red to bring attention to Women’s Heart Health this month. Beaming atop the stairs in the photo is our beloved and now departed colleague, Theresa Hill, who we remember for her spark, spunk, and spirit of sharing which she gave so freely to all – and mostly to our students. Thank you for extending compassion and care to each other this week as we commemorate her life and service. The office of Creative Communications sent details for a March 1 memorial service in a campus-wide email this morning.
I joined Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (WEOC) representatives for the New York State Black and Puerto Rican Legislative Caucus in Albany where we had opportunity to meet with our elected officials and SUNY governmental relations staff to discuss issues important to higher education and our students. It was an opportunity for students to interact with state representatives and to advocate for themselves. Four WEOC Allied Health students joined the statewide system of EOC in a showcase demonstrating their skills taking blood pressures and providing related information to the thousands of participants at the Caucus. Students spoke from the podium about their personal journeys, stating how their time at WEOC has positively affected their lives. The highlight for one student was the opportunity to visit with Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. Thanks to Associate Dean and WEOC Director Dr. Gina Gaines and colleagues Gail Bilal, Tiffany Davis, Michael Frank, and Tabitha Villaronga for representing WEOC.
For the next two weeks, the Strategic Planning Committee continues to gather information from community partners, the Strategic Administrative Leadership Team (SALT), and each of you through participation in a short survey about our pathway to the future. If you have not yet submitted a survey, here is the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StratPlanEmplOutreach. Additionally, you are invited to a Town Hall meeting in Classroom Building 200 at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28. There, the committee will collect your ideas, opinions, and thoughts so that we can prepare for a dynamic and hands-on Strategic Planning Summit the morning of April 12. Thanks to those who have already provided input.
