About the Mount Vernon Extension Center
The Mount Vernon Extension Center of Westchester Community College is located at 17 S. Fifth Avenue in downtown Mount Vernon, a short walk from City Hall. Equipped with smart technology classrooms, a comfortable student lounge, spacious computer labs and a large lecture hall, the center offers students a wide range of courses in general education, liberal arts and ESL.

Academic Advisors and Financial Aid Counselors at Mount Vernon
Academic counseling is offered at Mount Vernon during the following days. We recommend calling our center ahead of time to verify the schedule.
Monday: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
Tuesday: 9:30 am – 7:00 pm
Wednesday: 9:30 am – 7:00 pm
Financial aid counseling is offered at Mount Vernon every Tuesday from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
No appointment necessary. Counselors see students on a first come, first serve basis.
In this issue, we asked students, “What is your favorite thing about the Mount Vernon Extension Center?” They had lots to say, and we are proud to celebrate their success, victories, and feedback.
This issue also highlights special events and workshops at Mount Vernon this spring. To celebrate diversity, the Mount Vernon Activities Club sponsored special events for Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In addition, the center held a mock interview workshop and a scholarship workshop, which were both well attended. We hope you enjoy!

Community and Job Board
Looking for a job, internship, scholarship, or event? Looking for things to do in the community or for ways to improve your skills while in school? Want to grab a snack and read the college or local newspaper? Make sure to visit our student lounge and read our community bulletin boards, updated daily with dozens of events, resources and opportunities for students and community members.
Computer Fundamentals: Offered in collaboration with the Professional Development Center, this course is designed to increase computer skills. Whether you are new to computers or you just want to brush up on your computer skills, this course is for you. Increase your proficiency in the basic operations of using Windows-based computers with techniques and shortcuts. Build your confidence and get control of your computer by managing, organizing and searching for your files and folders. Learn the benefits of different Internet browsers and search engines, including safe and efficient Internet use. Manage your email folders and attachments and get a glimpse of popular social media sites including Facebook and Twitter. Knowledge of computers is not a prerequisite for this course.
Tuition is $372 + textbook (available at the bookstore in Valhalla).

NEW! Budgeting 101 & Credit Repair Workshop: Do you need help with creating a budget or fixing your credit? We’ve got you covered! Learn from experts in a friendly, non-judgmental environment and gain useful tips to improve your finances. Topics include creating and managing a budget, understanding and improving your credit score, getting out of debt, and obtaining loans and mortgages.

English as a Second Language: The Mount Vernon Extension Center offers ESL from levels 2 through 6 as well as Pronunciation & Conversation. Classes are offered Tuesday/Thursday mornings, Tuesday/Thursday evenings, or all day Saturday. All students must take a placement exam to determine their level. Metro-North lines serving the extension center include: the New Haven line stopping at Mount Vernon East (a short walk to the college) and the Harlem line stopping at Mount Vernon West (a short bus ride to the college).
Bronx River Pkwy traveling southbound:
Take Exit 10B, left onto Bronx River Rd. Left onto Mt. Vernon Avenue/Yonkers Ave, right onto W. Lincoln Ave, left onto W. 1st St, right onto S. 5th Ave (college on left).
Hutchinson River Pkwy traveling southbound:
Take Exit 8 toward Mt. Vernon, keep right at the fork, follow signs for NY-22S, right onto E. Lincoln Ave. At the traffic circle, take third exit onto Gramatan Ave. Right onto W. 1st St, left onto S. 5th Ave (college on left).
Bronx River Pkwy traveling northbound:
Take Exit 10A, right onto Mt. Vernon Ave/Yonkers Ave; Continue to follow Mt. Vernon Ave. Turn right onto W. Lincoln Ave, left onto W. 1st St, right onto S. 5th Ave (college on right).
Hutchinson River Pkwy traveling northbound:
Take Exit 9 for Wolfs Lane, right onto Wolfs Lane. Take first right onto Colonial Ave, continue onto E. Sanford Blvd, right onto S. 5th Ave (college on right).
Discounted parking permits are available to WCC students through the City of Mount Vernon. Pick up an application at the front desk. Parking passes are valid for marked spots in Municipal Parking Lot #1. The cost is $10/month.
Don’t want to buy a pass? There is plenty of metered parking on streets and also in Municipal Lot #1.
