Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: End of Semester Countdown
December 1, 2017
Colleagues,
December 1 signals the beginning of an intense three-week period for students and employees alike. With the end of fall term near, teaching faculty are preparing to conclude instruction and administer exams, counselors are helping students with their course selections for winter session and spring, and staff are making sure that operations are running smoothly to end the term and the year. These are not small tasks, and all of them are important. Thanks to everyone for contributing to our success during these busy times.
Amid these activities are many special events that celebrate our community and the achievements of our students. It is impossible to attend every event, but your presence is valued for the ones that your schedule will allow.
- On Thursday, December 14 at 4 p.m., our Completion Ceremony will honor the students who are completing degree requirements this term. All are invited to attend this event, which will be held in the gym of the Physical Education Building.
- On Friday, December 15, the Senior Administrative Leadership Team will travel to the Food Bank of Westchester for its monthly meeting. This month, our administrators will package food as volunteers, expanding our year-end tradition of the college giving to the community.
Speaking of giving, the President’s Forum event hosted by the Westchester Community College Foundation last month raised $65,000 supporting student scholarships and college programs. This preceded an impromptu gift from administrators to the Foundation during the November SALT meeting which later received a 100% match!
There are many ways to support the Foundation that do not involve giving money directly, including participating in AmazonSmile, which is a popular way for nonprofits to benefit from online purchases. Earlier this week, an email was sent college-wide providing instructions on how to participate in this way of giving. Of course, your decision to shop at this site is yours alone, and is simply a nice way to leverage your holiday shopping dollars to spur a donation to the non-profit of your choice, if you so choose. The Westchester Community College Foundation has no formal affiliation with this entity.
Last, please let students know about upcoming Saturday enrollment days on December 9, December 16, and January 6. Information, including locations, is posted on the website.
Thank you for the work you are doing to help our students succeed in their studies, final exams, and educational goals. They could not do so without YOU!
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
