What does “free” mean?
The SUNY Reconnect program covers the cost of tuition, fees, books, and supplies after all other financial aid is applied. It does not cover housing.
- To maintain your eligibility for SUNY Reconnect, you must enroll in at least 6 credits each semester. This requirement ensures you are making satisfactory progress toward your degree. You can choose to attend either full-time or part-time, but remember that you must complete your degree within 10 semesters.
How do I apply?
- Students must apply for TAP or the NYS DREAM Act, if applicable. It is recommended that students make every effort to maximize federal aid through the FAFSA when possible. Any student who: (i) is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen; (ii) has one or more required FAFSA-contributor family members who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; and (iii) does not want to complete a FAFSA; may use the newly announced Alternate Eligibility Path to apply to TAP.
- Students are not required to receive a TAP award to be eligible for SUNY Reconnect, but must complete the application. Students who do not complete their TAP application will lose eligibility for SUNY Reconnect funding.
- No separate application is needed for SUNY Reconnect.
- Incoming and returning students will be automatically reviewed for SUNY Reconnect funds.
