POWER 88.1 – SUNY Westchester’s FCC licensed radio station
The New Sound of POWER 88.1 FM is the voice of SUNY Westchester Community College’s radio station. The legal handle of the station, W.A.R.Y. allows students to host their own on-air shows, serve as DJ for an on-campus event as well as help manage the behind-the-scenes production for the station such as event promotion, recruitment, and selection of new music to showcase. The station plays a variety of music genres and provides various talk shows focused on current news, rising trends, and more.
Mission Statement:
POWER 88.1 THE NEW SOUND Radio Station is a student-run radio station that aims to entertain and educate the Valhalla community with information and music that is neither biased nor unfair and adheres to moral and ethical standards. By establishing a professional working radio station environment, POWER 88.1 is able to inform the campus community and greater Westchester County and provide a place for learning and personal growth/development for the student members.
Purpose:
POWER 88.1 THE NEW SOUND Radio Station’s primary purpose is to provide professional training, personal development, and artistic expression for students interested and involved in the process of running a radio station as well as the development and broadcasting of radio shows, the planning and oversight of music inspired events, the production of music and or the recording of podcasts. POWER 88.1 will work with all students to broadcast news, music, public affairs, and spoken-word programs to the SUNY WCC community. Our secondary purpose is to ensure that all members utilize the equipment and space for their own professional development and therefore, there is an expectation that all equipment will be maintained in its original condition.

If music is your thing, become part of Power 88.1, where you will have the opportunity to become an on-air DJ, work in music production, and promotions, and have your very own podcast, and a live talk show.
Requirements: Under the Cub & Organization Policies and Procedures: In order to be eligible to participate, students must meet the following criteria, unless approved by the Director of Student Involvement:
- Remain in both good judicial and academic standing.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
- Be enrolled in at least one (1) credit-bearing course at the college.
