Mission Statement

Threat-based cybersecurity is the fastest growing sector in the information technology. The rapidly increasing digital presence of people, businesses, governments, and data means no one is immune from being the target of cyber criminals and yet, there is a significant deficit in cybersecurity talent in the United States and around the globe. In 2018, more than fifty percent of business cited a shortage of qualified cybersecurity professionals. By 2021, it is estimated that more than 3.5 million cybersecurity positions will remain unfilled.

The mission of the Westchester Community College Center for Cybersecurity is to help students increase their knowledge and skills in key areas of information technology and cybersecurity to prepare them to join the ranks of security professionals.

2025 was a tumultuous year for cybersecurity professionals. The focus on AI technology shifted from generative AI (genAI) to agent and agentic AI for productivity, cybersecurity, and malicious actors; and the variety of cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure markets as well as average businesses, reaching all four corners of the globe, kept security and risk teams on their toes.
