Is It 1984 Yet? Censorship, Empire, and the English Language

This talk traces George Orwell’s concerns about censorship across his essays and novels and looks at the way they are related to his historical context and to British imperialism in particular. It then turns to our contemporary moment to evaluate the degree to which his predictions and fears have been realized and what that has to do with empire in the present.
