About the FSA?

The Faculty-Student Association (FSA) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization registered by the State of New York. Since 1953, the FSA has provided educational related services to benefit Westchester Community College including oversight of all campus dining services, bookstore, vending & ATM services. We value student opinions and encourage input from students on a regular basis. Three students serve on the twelve member Faculty-Student Association Board of Directors, as well as on a variety of committees.

FSA Mission Statement

The Faculty-Student Association endeavors to be a most effective service component for Westchester Community College. Our goal is to provide strategic vision and leadership by striving to deliver world class administrative, financial, and other essential services that support student success. Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with all campus constituencies including students, faculty, staff, administration and community.

FSA Student Accident & Sickness Insurance

The College will not offer Voluntary Student Sickness Insurance policies as of September 2015. However, please find information on your eligibility for individual coverage at the Benefits Access Center Office. The Benefits Access Center is available to all Westchester Community College students and their immediate family members.

ATM Locations

There are two (2) ATM machines located on campus. One is located on the first floor of the Student Center across from the Crema Café and the other is located across from Siegel Cafe in the Gateway building.

The Student Center & Gateway Hours are:
Monday – Friday: 7:00 am – 9:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm.

A security camera monitors the ATMs 24 hours a day.

Open FSA Positions

Coordinator of LGBTQIA+ Programs

The Department of Student Involvement believes that every student has the right to community, connection, and self development. We are committed to providing comprehensive and meaningful educational experiences for students in the co-curriculum. We accomplish this through the creation of inclusive and intentional learning environments while supporting students in acquiring leadership and other transferable skills that can be utilized throughout their academic and professional careers.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Leadership and Multicultural Programs, the Coordinator of LGBTQIA+ Programs will be responsible for providing support for all LGBTQIA+ programs in the areas of planning, executing and assessing. Some nights and weekends may be requested, though the successful candidate will be compensated.

Position Duties:

  1. Plan, execute, and assess campus events focused on gender and sexuality, including but not limited to: National Coming Out Day, GLOW’s Annual Drag Show, Hudson Valley TransForum Conference, Trans Visibility Week, Viking Rainbow Pride, and Lavendar Graduation.
  2. Serve as the primary point of contact for LGBTQIA+ community organizations partnerships, including but not limited to: The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center, The Ally Care Center, and Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.
  3. Serve as an advisor to GLOW, the on campus LGBTQIA+ student led club, including the planning, execution, and assessment of on-going student leader training and support.
  4. Serve as the coordinator and facilitator of the Viking Advocate Safe Zone Program.
  5. Create additional LGBTQIA+ training and development opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
  6. Support departmental operations/initiatives, including, but not limited to: event attendance, office duties, meeting participation, etc.
  7. Assist with major department programs such as student leader trainings and orientation.
  8. Serve on campus committees as required.
  9. All other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Associate degree
  2. Experience planning and executing large-scale events
  3. Experience in creating and facilitating training sessions for various stakeholders.
  4. The ability to work in a team environment and amongst diverse groups.
  5. A comprehensive understanding of LGBTQIA+ identities and experiences.
  6. Good time management and communication skills (both written and oral).
  7. Ability to work independently as needed.
  8. Knowledge and commitment to the goals and mission of the community college.
  9. Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Working knowledge of student & leadership development theories or desire to learn
  3. Experience in advising and training student clubs and organizations
  4. A comprehensive understanding of queer theory and history.

Compensation

  1. This is a benefits ineligible part-time position of the Faculty-Student Association of Westchester Community College, Inc.
  2. $19-$23/hour commensurate with education, not to exceed twenty (20) hours per week.
  3. Hours are flexible, but individuals MUST be available Mondays from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM and Thursdays from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM.

College Bookstore, operated by Barnes & Noble Education

The College Bookstore, operated by Barnes & Noble Education is conveniently located within the David Swope Student Center. The Bookstore provides a wide array of merchandise which includes academic textbooks and study guides and is also a convenient one-stop shopping for snacks, metro-cards, college apparel, supplies, stationery, and gift items.

Student Activity Fee

The Student Activity Fee provides funding for the College’s Student Involvement and Athletics Departments and for student-run organizations including the Student Government Association, Westchester Events Board, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Cultural Arts Fee

The Cultural Arts Fee provides funding for student arts programs sponsored by the School of Arts & Humanities, including Viking Theatricals, Musicology, Dance Collaborative, the Art Gallery, student literary journals, as well as for student-run organizations including The Viking News and Power 88.1 FM Radio Station.

Dining Services

Our mission is to operate a college dining service with the highest standards of quality and service at the best value.

The Viking Café (main cafeteria), located in the Student Center Building, serves students, faculty, and staff. The Viking Cafe offers a wide variety of food options, fresh made salad bar, made-to- order sandwiches and hot meals. Other locations include the Crema Café in the Student Center where We Proudly Serve a full line of Starbucks hot and cold beverages and the Siegel Café in the Gateway Center.
