Accessibility Services Spring 2026
Accessibility Services would like to welcome you back to the Spring 2026 semester! Wishing all of you a wonderful semester!
Sincerely, Dr. Leidy K. Pichardo, Assistant Vice President and Dean of Student Success
SUNY WCC is required to provide students with disabilities reasonable accommodations in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADA of 1990, and the ADAAA of 2008 for all courses, including labs. Last year, over 1,000 students with disabilities received accommodations through Accessibility Services. Accommodating the needs of students with disabilities is a shared responsibility amongst the student, Accessibility Services, faculty, and staff.
We have found that early access to accommodations eases some of the challenges experienced by students with disabilities. We strongly recommend that you make an announcement in the first week of the semester, as well as include a statement within your syllabus, encouraging students with a documented disability to contact Accessibility Services.
Notification of Approved Accommodations
To maintain alignment with the Academic Calendar, commencing January 27, 2026, students will be able to sign up for accommodations via the Accommodate platform. If there is a test or quiz in your class prior to this date, please encourage your student to contact our office to receive their accommodations.
“Accessibility isn’t just about meeting legal requirements; it’s about making people feel valued and supported… By investing in both design and the students themselves, colleges can create campuses where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”.
Enrolling in Accessibility Services
- Accommodation letters for students registered with Accessibility Services are sent to faculty through Accommodate and will come from, [email protected].
- This letter serves as official notification that the stated student has exercised their right to access their accommodations and is entitled to all the accommodations listed in the letter.
- Professors cannot alter accommodations. If there are additional accommodations that you feel students will benefit from or if you think a student in your class may have a disability and you have not received a notification from Accessibility Services, please make an appointment with an Accessibility Services counselor to discuss prior to approaching the student.
- To access the accommodation letters, click on the link in the email and electronically sign them at the bottom.
- Be sure to read each letter because accommodation varies from one student to another.
- Signing a student’s accommodation letter lets both the students and Accessibility Services know that you have been notified of their accommodations.
- Once you sign into Accommodate, you will be able to see a list of your students.
- Click HERE or more detailed instructions on accessing your Accommodate account. Please be mindful that this information is for your knowledge only and must be kept confidential. We ask that you do not discuss a student’s accommodations in front of other students, professors, or staff.
- Extended time on exams and quizzes 1.5 or 2.0 (refer to the students’ accommodations letter for approved time extension).
- A separate location includes a distraction-reduced environment. This means that a student cannot be distracted by other students entering or leaving the classroom. In addition, students cannot test in the hallway. A distraction-reduced environment needs to be discussed with the student. Accessibility Services encourages the student to discuss this arrangement with the professor. An acceptable distraction-reduced location may include a professor’s office, empty classrooms, and Accessibility Services. Distraction-reduced environment applies to the entire length of the exam.
- Audio recording of class lectures and labs. See attached:

Students requesting to have Accessibility Services proctor their exams in person or via Zoom must complete the online Test Room Booking form through Accommodate. This form must be filled out at least 72 business hours (3 business days) in advance of the test date. Once the student makes the request, Accessibility Services and professor will receive an email from Accommodate with a link and further instructions on completing the request.
As always, we appreciate your dedication and support in ensuring students with disabilities receive their mandated accommodations. If you have any questions or concerns about accommodations for a student in your class or require assistance with Accommodate, please email the Accessibility Services Testing Office at [email protected].
