Taste of Westchester: Mentor’s Mediterranean Steak
415 King Street, Chappaqua, 914-861-2386, www.mentorsteakhouse.com
Dubrovnik Flavors! Owner Mentor Berisha, combines Mediterranean style seafood with an American style steakhouse. They feature prime beef, dry aged in house for 31 days. Born in Croatia and raised in Peja Republic of Kosovo, they source grass-fed beef from the Piedmont region of Italy as Mentor believes it tastes best. He will discuss his recipes that are similar to those of his mom and grandmother, with light touches of herbs, garlic, lemon and olive oil. We begin with a lesson on achieving tender squid Dubrovnik style – lightly breaded and then sautéed fresh calamari in a zesty Dubrovnik style red sauce of capers, cherry peppers, and kalamata olives. An added bonus, taste a mini version and learn the bartender’s secrets to a popular cocktail, “Take Me to Dubrovnik” – Citron vodka, hibiscus and pineapple juices, St. Germaine, mixed with fresh lime juice. The term “kebab” originates from the Ottoman Turkish word “kebap,” which is derived from the Arabic word “kabab” referring to roasted or grilled meat. Chef teaches their version of Middle Eastern-style grilled organic chicken skewered kebab Mediterraneo – bell peppers, zucchini, onions, served over Mediterranean style rice using many traditional spices. A customer favorite are Mentor’s Mediterranean chips – crispy zucchini, eggplant and potato chips served with refreshing Tzatziki sauce – cucumber and yogurt. Learn the techniques they utilize to make a traditional Tiramisu made with coffee liquor. In season, the giant French doors are opened for a lovely al fresco feel. Visit them on “$1 Oyster Mondays” or “Ladies $10 Cocktail Wednesdays” for an enjoyable treat!
