Poets & Writers presents: Changing Hearts and History in 10 LGBTQ+ Stories

Gateway Center, Davis Auditorium

October is LGBTQ+ History Month. National Coming Out Day is October 11.

Join writer, activist, and filmmaker Brendan Fay for a powerful presentation featuring the stories of 10 important local LGBTQ+ activists and trailblazers. We’ll discover liberation pioneers like Marsha P. Johnson, whose role in the Stonewall uprising and work with the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) helped shape the history of transgender rights activism. We’ll learn about the first openly gay FDNY firefighter and the founding of FIREFLAG, an organization dedicated to providing support, advocacy, and visibility for LGBTQ+ firefighters and EMS. And we’ll hear the stories of other courageous individuals who challenged discrimination, built movements, and helped change hearts and make history.

This event offers an opportunity to learn about 10 historic LGBTQ+ activists – their struggles, their activism, their communities, and the changes they forged. This interactive event includes a Q and A.

All are welcome.
