Overview
Student Life is part of the Division of Student Affairs. Through its dedicated and talented staff across multiple departments, Student Life:
- Offers opportunities for students to engage in the SUNY WCC community through various extracurricular activities, including athletics, student clubs & organizations, multicultural programs, leadership development experiences, service learning, and more.
- Advocates for students’ rights and responsibilities, administered through the Student Code of Conduct, which protects the rights of community members, creates an environment that is conducive to learning, maintains the safety and well-being of the community, and supports the belief that all members of the institution should be part of an inclusive, welcoming, and affirming environment.
- Supports student health and well-being through a variety of counseling and wellness initiatives that help students with their physical and mental health and helps individuals access basic need resources.
Additional Functions & Services
Student Life also oversees the Community Assessment and Risk Evaluation (CARE) Team and serves as student advocates by promoting students’ rights and responsibilities and adjudicating alleged violations of these tenets as detailed in the Student Code of Conduct.
Division of Student Affairs
Student Life is comprised of the following departments and services:
The Athletic Department provides quality athletic programs that promote the athletic development and retention of athletes. The department is also committed to supporting academics and complying with the academic standards of national and regional athletic associations.
Health Services offers services and resources to support and promote student physical health and well-being. Health Services also seeks to protect the health of the college community through enforcement of all New York State Immunization Laws and public health mandates. All visits are kept confidential.
Mental Health and Counseling Services creates a campus environment that is safe, growth fostering, and prioritizes the psychological, social, and emotional well-being of our college community. Employing a holistic approach to mental health, the Department of Mental Health and Counseling Services offers confidential individual and group mental health services to students, as well as programming, outreach, and psychoeducation initiatives to the broader College community.
Student Involvement believes that every student has the right to community, connection, and self-development, and is committed to providing comprehensive and meaningful educational experiences for students in the co-curriculum. Student Involvement creates inclusive and intentional learning environments while supporting students in acquiring leadership and other transferable skills that can be utilized throughout their academic and professional careers.
Student Support Services helps students relieve or eliminate personal and familial tangible challenges and hardships that affect their ability to achieve their academic goals. Student Support Services improves student wellness and success through the development of individualized success plans, case management, innovative programming, and referrals to a network of providers
The Community Assessment & Risk Evaluation (CARE) Team is a cross-functional committee of faculty, staff, and administrators who identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with students exhibiting concerning behavior or thoughts. To address the well-being and security of the community and the individual, the CARE Team partners with the community and recommend interventions that help ensure the likelihood of a positive and safe resolution.
Student Life advocates for student rights & responsibilities, who educate the community about the Student Code of Conduct and adjudicate alleged violations of the Code. Through this, Student Life seeks to protect the rights of community members, create an environment that is conducive to learning, maintain the safety and well-being of the community, and support the belief that all members of the institution should be part of an inclusive, welcoming, and affirming environment.
Student veterans, reserve component personnel, active-duty service members, family members, and dependents are offered a variety of programs and initiatives through the Veteran & Military Affiliated Student Services Office. These include career and internship opportunities as well as assistance accessing and utilizing campus, community, and national resources.
