It offers a wide array of credit, liberal arts, and humanities courses so that residents can start college closer to home. It also provides a large ESL (English-as-a-SecondLanguage) program to our local community. This center specializes in offering a variety of digital arts and filmmaking curricula in its five post-production studios. These state-ofthe-art Hudson Valley resources provide access to training in Mixed Reality (XR), Web Design, 3D Animation, Historic Preservation, Digital Photography, Social Media Specialist, Game Design, and more. In addition, this site has noncredit, adult computer training, studio arts, and a vibrant arts technology youth program during the summer. The 20,000 square-foot facility features 11 smart classrooms and five post-production studios. The center has a Makerspace equipped with seven 3D printers.This cutting-edge space holds 75 Apple workstations and 15 Microsoft Surfaces dedicated to digital arts education. This center is close to other cultural centers, galleries, and restaurants and serves approximately 1,000 students per year. The college focuses on workforce development for adults as well as student services that support student success such as admissions, academic and financial aid advising, bursar, registrar, academic support, workshops, and student activities. During Summer 2024, the center will be offering another Youth Arts Technology Program. The program has been transformed into a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) art technology curriculum and focuses on engaging youth to problem-solve, collaborate, and create. Two-week sessions run weekdays Monday to Thursday (no Fridays), July 8 to 18, and July 22 to August 1. This program is where art supported by technology provides students with 21st century literacies and skills. Some students will hone their observational skills while painting and drawing with models; some will learn how to code and control robots; while others will learn to create games.These courses are designed to spark the imagination and cultivate critical thinking skills that will serve students well as they move forward in this millennium. These printers use PLA Filament, a nontoxic resin derived from field corn. PLA Filament is easy to use and performs well on most prints. The center’s five post-production studios are outfitted with powerful iMac workstations and one with Microsoft Surface Studio machines, which are available for students taking digital filmmaking, digital imaging, web design, graphic design, game design, and animation classes. Our Mixed Reality program also introduced the Meta Quest 2 headset to the center for VR (Virtual Reality) development. Software Update The center uses Autodesk® Maya® with Arnold, Maxon ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, and Substance Painter for our cutting-edge software offering in our 3D Animation certificate. Maya is used by many digital media companies for 3D content creation and animation. ZBrush is a high-end 3D modeling, painting, and texturing software application used primarily for character design. Marvelous provides content creators with the ability to create fast and accurate 3D cloth and fabric, which can be used in various projects such as fashion design and animation. Substance Painter is a dedicated 3D texturing application used in the film and gaming industries to further compliment the 3D design workflow. Our digital arts studios provide the latest version of Adobe Design Creative Cloud software. The facility offers current versions of Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects in our filmmaking studios. Our Mixed Reality certificate will run on the Unity design engine, capable of AR/VR development as well as 2D/3D game design. Students will also get to experience it in action with live demonstrations and interactive activities. We will also see a John Russell Pope designed church, a college with an 1855 Gothic “castle,” the homes of notable residents such as Lou Gehrig, playwright Robert Anderson, Jay Leno, a presidential mistress, and more. The culminating experience will be the creation of a photography portfolio and exhibition to share with family, friends, and potential employers in order to continue on their personal and professional pathways. This program provides a foundation in practice and theory with hands-on activities, in-depth assignments, and lectures by the instructor and using supplemental resources, such as videos and/or interviews with social media professionals. The culminating experience will be the creation of a social media portfolio that students can share with potential employers or use as a guide to create their own social media consulting business. There is no other certificate program in Historic Preservation offered at a community college in New York State. The 140-hour program is half classwork and half directed historic preservation fieldwork. One elective is required to fulfill the certificate. News at SUNY Westchester Center for the Digital Arts The Center for the Digital Arts Gallery celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a Student Showcase Exhibition in Spring 2024, highlighting the work of credit and non-credit students and alumni. This group exhibition honored their contributions, showcasing their achievements and the diverse programs offered by the center. The exhibition featured students from including Art & Design A.S., Digital Filmmaking A.A.S., ITECH A.A.S., non-credit Workforce Development Certificates, Adobe Certification, and Community Arts. It provided a comprehensive view of the center’s curriculum and demonstrated its dynamic approach to education and artmaking. The reception for the exhibition took place on February 22, from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the center. During the event, student artists were recognized with juried awards in categories such as 3D, Illustration and 2D Animation, Digital Photography, and Fine Arts with awards presented at four levels: First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention.
