Transferring and For-Profit Colleges
Classroom Building, Room C-100
Dr. Elizabeth Miller, Associate Professor of Sociology, will be hosting a presentation and discussion for students about for-profit colleges, what they are, and what students should know about them when continuing their education after SUNY WCC. The program will include an excerpt from Frontline’s documentary, A Subprime Education, which explores for-profit colleges’ predatory, and often fraudulent, practices and tendency to recruit first-generation college students. The discussion following the screening will focus on the challenges that for-profit college degree-seekers and graduates face, including finding employment in their field of study, taking on substantial debt, and defaulting on student loans.
