Consultations
Licensed Mental Health Professionals are available to provide guidance and consultation with college faculty and staff who have concerns about a student or situation involving students. Consultation can take place over the phone, Zoom, or in-person. Licensed Mental Health Professionals can help faculty and staff develop action plans for navigating difficult classroom/student situations. Licensed Mental Health Professionals cannot provide faculty or staff members with any identifying or specific student information unless written permission is given by the student.
Referral Process & Connecting Students to Services
Services are not mandated. Students reserve the right to not engage with the Department of Mental Health and Counseling Services.
Reasons for Referring a Student to Mental Health and Counseling Services include, but are not limited to the following:
- Student Stated Need for Help or Support
- Observed Changes in Mood and/or Behavior
- Anxiety and Depression
- References to Suicide
- Traumatic Life Events or Changes in Personal Relationships (ie: death of family member)
- Drug and/or Alcohol Abuse
- Changes in Physical Health and/or Physical Appearance (ie: noticeable weight change)
Referral Process
Faculty and Staff must complete the online referral form. A Licensed Mental Health Professionals will review the referral form and reach out to the student within 24-48 business hours.
Licensed Mental Health Professionals will only reach out to faculty or staff should they have questions, concerns, or require additional information. The online referral process is NOT for medical or mental health emergencies or crises.
Referring a student to the Department of Mental Health and Counseling Services does not guarantee student’s follow-through with services.

Supporting Students in Distress Training
The Department of Mental Health and Counseling Services offers a 1.5-hour training designed for WCC Faculty and Staff to support their students. In this training, we discuss warning signs that a student may be experiencing a mental health issue, give tips on how to support this student, and walk you through the best way of connecting this student with our services.
