Description

PDC is looking for a Marketing Intern to join our department for the 2025-2026 school year. The Marketing Intern will work closely with PDC staff to refine, implement, run and evaluate a adigital marketing strategy to boost class enrollments and increase earned revenues.

The ideal candidate will be a SUNY WCC student enrolled in a degree program in communications or marketing AND/OR have experience in marketing services, managing social media feeds, and recognizing opportunities to reach new audiences.

The Marketing Internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience growing PDC’s digital presence and referral networks to better reach the 1 million residents and thousands of businesses, organizations and government entities that call Westchester County home.

Responsibilities

Working in conjunction with PDC staff, the Marketing Intern will participate in some or all of the following:

• Weekly Departmental Marketing Meeting: Join the weekly PDC departmental marketing meeting (currently held on Mondays from 2-3pm) to review ongoing marketing efforts and determine marketing priorities for upcoming week.
• Marketing Plan Review: Strengthen the existing marketing plan to better clarify the offerings and value propositions for the department’s different customers.
• Department Website Enhancement: Identify opportunities to improve the clarity and correctness of information and decrease transactional friction within the department’s website.
• Social Media / Email Strategy: Help execute a strategy for the department’s LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Constant Contact accounts; monitor analytics.
• Marketing Materials Differentiation: Develop segmented marketing materials for different audiences (learners, community partners, businesses, etc.)
• Referral Network Strengthening: Expand the list of local community-based organizations that can serve as referrals to PDC programs.
• Marketing Events: Participate in virtual or in-person marketing events as appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate

• GPA: 2.5 or better, student in good standing
• 24 hours of earned credits at time of internship
• Ability to work 8 hours a week/120 hours over the semester in the internship
• Approval of Curriculum Chair in Major
• Enrolled in undergraduate program in communications or marketing, or interest in learning more about marketing
• Working knowledge of LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Constant Contact
• Understanding of basic social media analytic measurements
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to handle a flexible work schedule based on workload

Location, Hours & Supervision

• The internship will be based in the PDC offices in The Gateway Center, although some tasks may be done remotely.
• Intern will work between 6-10 hours per week, depending on funding available.
• Intern will report to Dan Salemson, part-time Program Manager & Adjunct Faculty for PDC, and a full-time PDC staff member to be determined.
• Supervisors will develop Learning Outcomes along with student; and mentor, train and supervise intern, with 2 performance surveys during the course of the internship (mid and end of internship).

About the Professional Development Center (PDC)

The Professional Development Center (PDC) – also referred to as Workforce Development – is part of SUNY WCC’s Division of Workforce Development & Community Education (WDCE), overseeing the college’s non-credit classes and certification trainings.  WDCE has the highest non-credit enrollment among community colleges in the SUNY system.

PDC focuses on career enhancement and advancement through short-term training programs in Healthcare, Technology, Digital Arts/Media, Trades, Real Estate, Insurance and other areas, as well as programs in English as a Second Language (ESL), High School Equivalency Test (GED) prep, Entrepreneurism, and more. Most programs lead to industry-recognized professional certifications.

PDC supports Westchester County residents and businesses in three ways:

1. Open Enrollment: self-pay classes that are available to any learner and scheduled on the Valhalla campus, at Extension Centers in Mt. Vernon, Ossining, Peekskill & Yonkers, or offered online.
2. Specialized Programs: classes open to specific types of learners such as high school students and dislocated homemakers. These programs are typically underwritten by grants and available at no-cost to participants.
3. Corporate Training Programs: training programs designed to improve the skills of existing staff of a specific company or entity. The training is paid for by the employer.
