Forensic Biology Internship (SUNY WCC candidates)
Under supervision of authorized lab personnel, a forensic intern in the Biology section can perform the following activities:
- Assist in reagent and DNA sample preparation for planned validations
- Record results from validation studies
- Perform non-complex data calculations for validation studies
- Review and summarize scientific articles directly related to planned validations
- Use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing or analytical software in performing assignments associated with validation
- May assist with laboratory instrument maintenance, under supervision of authorized lab personnel
- May perform incidental administrative tasks
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Has completed General Biology I and II; a course in statistics is desirable but not required
- Can use Microsoft Excel and manage spreadsheets with formulas
Preferred candidates are students enrolled in:
- Liberal Arts and Sciences/Mathematics and Science A.S. – Biology Concentration, 3rd semester student
- Liberal Arts and Sciences/Mathematics and Science A.S. – Honors Concentration, with completion of Human Genetics
Additional Eligibility Criteria:
- GPA: 2.5 or better, student in good standing
- 24 hours of earned credits at time of internship
- Approval of Curriculum Char or other Faculty in Major
- Ability to work 8 hours a week/120 hours over the semester in the internship
- Must be enrolled at SUNY WCC in a credit bearing industry related degree program at time of internship.
Hours: FALL 2026: 15-week Fall semester would equate to 8 hours/week. This would be a function of scheduling and task, preferably 2, 4-hour shifts per week.
Location: White Plains
Pay: WCC College Interns will be paid by the college at minimum wage for up to 120 hours. Must be enrolled in credit bearing course at WCC during time on internship to be paid.
