Scope of Services
Scope of Services
The Personal Counseling Department offers free, confidential short-term individual counseling and group counseling to Westchester Community College students. In this collaborative process, Personal Counselors and students will develop a unique, supportive relationship focused on helping the student discover their strengths, cope with challenges, adjust, and grow. Personal Counselors offer useful feedback, and validate student’s emotions. Currently, Personal Counseling provides all of our services remotely through Zoom for Health Care; click here for more information about Telehealth.
Individual Short-Term Counseling
The Personal Counseling Department provides short-term and solution-focused individual mental health counseling (aka therapy). Personal Counselors provide culturally and trauma informed mental health services, honoring the uniqueness of each student’s individual struggles and experiences. Personal Counselors understand that the short-term nature of counseling may not be sufficient in meeting a student’s mental health needs. Personal Counselors work with students on an individual basis to assess needs and create collaborative action plan for ongoing support. Currently, Personal Counselors provide individual counseling services remotely through Zoom for Health Care; click here for more information about Telehealth.
In addition to individual counseling, the Personal Counseling Department also offers group counseling for WCC students. In group counseling, Personal Counselors create an environment where students can safely discuss their feelings, behaviors, and experiences while benefiting from the support and feedback of peers. Currently, Personal Counseling provides group counseling services remotely through Zoom for Health Care; click here for more information about Telehealth.
The Personal Counseling Department can offer assistance to students in need of longer-term psychotherapy and/or treatment options. Personal Counseling services are short-term in nature and can help students manage present concerns and provide support until the student is connected to outside resources. Personal Counselors will discuss options for referrals to outside resources when appropriate.
