SUMMARY:TESOL Webinar: Discovery-Based Pronunciation Instruction
DESCRIPTION:RSVP to attend online \nSummary\nIn order for adult multilingual learners (MLs) to thrive in their careers and educational opportunities\, they need strong communication skills. With this comes the need for them to acquire intelligible pronunciation. How can teachers of Adult MLs help learners achieve intelligible pronunciation? One way is to lead learners to discover pronunciation features in context. With a focus on suprasegmental features (stress\, intonation\, and rhythm)\, the presenter outlines the approach she uses for integrating pronunciation into any curriculum\, choosing features that align with instructional content and tasks. You will experience the approach for themselves as they discover suprasegmental features they can readily integrate into their curricula. \nPresenter Bio\nBetsy Parrish is Professor in the TESOL Program at Hamline University. She has worked for over 40 years as an English language teacher\, teacher educator\, and consultant in the US\, Bangladesh\, Costa Rica\, France\, India\, Russia\, and Vietnam. She is a frequent presenter on adult education issues\, including academic and career readiness\, pronunciation instruction\, and inclusive teaching practices. Betsy is the author of Teaching Adult English Language Learners: A Practical Introduction (Cambridge\, 2019) and Four Point: Advanced Listening and Speaking (University of Michigan Press\, 2011).
