Remembering the Past and Igniting the Future: How do we move forward TODAY?
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day is observed as a holiday in various U.S. states and New York declared Juneteenth a state holiday in 2020.
This celebration honors the day in 1865 when enslaved peoples within the states of Texas and Louisiana finally heard they’d been freed, two months after the Civil War had ended.
In celebration, you’ll have an opportunity to hear from multiple speakers and enjoy some music/connection time with your fellow WCC community members.
Additionally, during our time together we will be honoring those we have lost and those that have been taken from us with prayer and a libation ceremony.
