What is Commit to Change you ask?
Commit to Change is a leadership development program for students interested in advancing their leadership abilities while attempting to create positive social change on campus and in the community at large. This semester we have five groups presenting thier amazing projects. Here are some of the topics our students will be tackling: student hygiene needs at our extension sites, providing hot meals to food insecure students, working with foster youth, educating students on the opioid epidemic and providing them with the tools to dispose of medications safely, and dealing with stress as a student and finding safe spaces and learning techniques to become self-reliant.
The students have been working hard all semester and are ready to present their ideas to create sustained positive change at Westchester Community College or the community in which we reside. After each presentation, those in attendance will be asked to provide feedback on the content and realistic nature of each group’s initiative. One group of students will be selected and provided with funding to get their initiative started in an effort to foster student led social change.
Please feel free to come and go throughout that time frame if you cannot stay for the entire time.
