SUMMARY:Social Determinants of Health in Westchester County
DESCRIPTION:Health Science Building\, HSC 7 \nHosted by Prof. Sara Fozard \nAlthough Westchester County boasts premier medical institutions and a robust healthcare network\, access to care remains deeply uneven. Beneath its affluent reputation\, disparities persist\, with health outcomes and quality of life strongly shaped by social determinants of health (SDOH). \nThis presentation examines how these non-medical drivers—from housing and transportation to socioeconomic status—directly influence local healthcare availability and service utilization. Drawing on public health assessments\, County Health Department data\, and spatial analysis\, this session offers a comprehensive look at how geography and economic conditions impact long-term well-being across Westchester. \nParticipants will gain a clearer understanding of the structural factors driving regional disparities. Crucially\, attendees will discover how this data can be used to empower residents affected by these SDOH and aid community leaders working to build a more equitable health system for all Westchester County residents.

The 30-minute documentary explores New York City’s largely untold central role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade\, featuring Bryan Stevenson\, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative.
