During this moderated discussion, Dr. Carol Anderson, chair of African American Studies at Emory University, will trace the evolution of voter suppression tactics used to disenfranchise generations of Black Americans and disable true democracy.
In her books “One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression is Destroying Our Democracy” and “White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide,” Dr. Anderson delivers a persuasive and well-researched argument that white rage and white supremacy have consistently fueled anti-democratic tactics in the past and propelled strategies like present-day gerrymandering. Events of the 2020 presidential election have brought to the forefront this stark truth: our democracy is fractured.
