Radiologic Technology Program Application
The process has a firm application deadline of March 15, 2023. All applications must be received/postmarked by that date.
General Program Information
The Radiologic Technology Program at Westchester Community College is a twenty-four-month course of study (four semesters and two 10-week summer clinical semesters) leading to an associate degree. This is a selective program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and licensed by New York State Department of Health (NYSDH).
Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination and be eligible for New York State license. Opportunities for employment are available in hospitals, medical centers, imaging centers, physicians’ offices, sales and marketing, education, research and administration.
The program begins in the fall semester each year. Students will only be admitted in September of each year, with a limited number of available spaces.

Selection Process Considerations
Because the program requires a great time commitment, candidates must have completed the following courses with a “C” grade or better (with a special emphasis on the Anatomy and Physiology grades) and are maintaining a GPA of 2.7 or better.
Course Code & Title | Credits | Course Grade |
Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2 | 8 | “C” or better |
Composition & Literature 1 | 3 | “C” or better |
College Algebra | 4 | “C” or better |
Admission to the program is highly selective and competitive. Successfully meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission.
Course Requirements
-
If Anatomy & Physiology 1 or 2 were completed prior to 2017, it MUST be repeated before you can be accepted into the program.
-
If currently enrolled in A & P 2, it must be completed prior to March 15, 2023 (the due date of this application).
-
After Initial Acceptance Screening has been completed, students will be notified by their WCC email by April 15 whether or not they have been conditionally accepted.
Conditional Acceptance
Students who are notified by their WCC email that they have passed the initial acceptance screening must:
Submit a two-page essay
on “What has attracted me to a career in the field of Radiologic Technology” to demonstrate that they have given full consideration to a medical career in Radiologic Technology.
The essay should include research and reflections from:
- hospital observation
- research on radiologic technology as a profession.
Perform a mandatory observation
at an approved clinical education facility or an acceptable facility approved by the Program for a minimum of 6 hours. The observation form and list of hospitals will be mailed only to those applicants who are successful at the initial screening phase.
Admission to the program is very competitive and a privilege. Clinical constraints determine the maximum number of students admitted to provide a comprehensive clinical experience. As a result, candidates are selected by committee based upon prior academic records, the entrance essay after clinical observation, and averaged interview scores. Those who have met, and exceeded, the minimum requirements are most likely to succeed. The number of candidates selected annually is approximately 25. Selected candidates are required to attend information and interview sessions.
Qualified candidates who are not selected because of space constraints will be placed on a wait list. In the event the class is not filled, applicants who qualified but were not accepted because of space restraints will be given first opportunity to fill the vacated space(s). Acceptance or wait listing is only in effect for that specific year.
An annual application is required.
Medical clearance by the College Health office is required prior to final acceptance.
All candidates must provide the following medical information to the College Health Office located in the Student Center Building by August 1.
- Provide documentation of current immunization for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, PPD, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, SMA-7, Seasonal Flu (in the Fall following acceptance), COVID-19 (including booster), CBC and Urinalysis
- The process has a firm application deadline of March 15, 2023. All applications must be received/postmarked by that date.
