Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Sustaining Community – November 20, 2020
November 20, 2020
Colleagues,
Community Partnerships & Outreach
Yesterday I had the honor of joining SUNY Chancellor Dr. Jim Malatras and Purchase College President Dr. Milagros Peña to discuss Education from a SUNY Perspective During COVID as part of the Business Council of Westchester’s KeyBank Speakers Series. SUNY is poised to lead our state in economic recovery and is committed to meeting the needs of our regional business and industry communities, training the workforce of the future, and providing a pipeline to in-demand jobs throughout New York State and beyond.
Service Project
Many of you may recall past projects during our Season of Giving. Members of the Senior Administrative Leadership Team (SALT) volunteered at Feeding Westchester to prepare packages for distribution to food insecure community members. We collected non-perishable goods to replenish our campus food pantry. This year, under the leadership of the Westchester Community College Helping Hands and SALT, all members of the college community are invited to participate in a service project benefitting Hillside Food Outreach in Elmsford, NY. We have committed to donating personal care products to Westchester families in need. Please see the attachment for ways you can be involved, and special thanks to Nikki Rutledge for organizing this college wide service project.
College Community Celebrates
Westchester Community College continues to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a few more events scheduled through the end of November. Thanks to Student Involvement for providing co- and extra-curricular opportunities to learn about and honor rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories. Please continue to check the Event Calendar for information on Native American History Month and other events.
Pandemic Response
As we cautiously monitor the recent COVID-19 micro-clusters in our community, our Pandemic Response Team reminds us that our testing protocols remain in effect and asks that we Read details here. Information will be shared and posted on our website as it is updated. Please be sure to share with students and those who may need to access the Valhalla campus.
Finally, as we prepare to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, we are reminded of the latest health guidelines from the CDC and New York State Department of Health.
Thank you for keeping yourselves, your loved ones, and our college community safe as we do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19, colds, and flu.
