Instructor of Biology (Environmental Science)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Biology/The School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering
TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor of Biology (Environmental Science) – Tenure Track
RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional responsibilities for the position include teaching a full-time load of 15 credit hours during both the fall and spring semesters, particularly in Environmental courses and foundational Biology courses. The successful candidate will be expected to be an integral part of the Environmental curricula and participate in assessment, as well as contribute to departmental and college activities and initiatives that support the college mission.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master’s degree in an area of Biology and one year of college-level teaching experience are required. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom as well as the ability to integrate new technologies and media into teaching and learning are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years of college-level teaching experience, preferably at the community college level. Candidates with experience in the areas of Environmental Science and sustainability, as well as experience in classroom technology and conducting environmental labs, are strongly preferred. Assess student learning through demonstrated reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment. Manage classes and learning environments through fostering a positive classroom-learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners. Support learning through student engagement – incorporating pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2019
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $64,841 plus excellent benefits.
