Here Westchester Community College employees can find information to both prepare you for the migration and to guide you after your WCC e-mail is moved to the Microsoft Office 365 (O365) cloud.
Please note that student email already exists in Office 365. This mailbox migration does not impact student email addresses.
What is changing and why?
Westchester Community College is working to migrate on-premise e-mail mailboxes to the cloud. Some reconfiguration may be required to receive email on all of your devices; however, daily interactions with your e-mail will remain unchanged.
If you access your email through a web browser, please note the new URL you will use following the migration is https://outlook.com
YOU MUST Login with your UserID@sunywcc.edu & MyWCC password
We are moving e-mail mailboxes to the cloud to provide enhanced collaboration tools and a better long term service. Hosting email in the Microsoft cloud offers many benefits, including collaboration between faculty, staff and students, infrastructure cost savings, real time updates without system downtime, high availability for business continuity, and email accessibility anywhere an internet connection is available.
When will it change?
The Division of Information Technology is deploying Office 365 in a strategic phased approach throughout the remainder of 2020. You will receive more information via email informing you of when your mailbox is scheduled to be migrated to Office 365.
What to expect.
Before
In order to expedite the migration process, please consider do the following:
- Deleting all unnecessary emails from your Inbox
- Deleting all unnecessary emails from your Junk/SPAM folder
- Deleting all items within your Deleted items folder
NOTE: While these steps are not necessary, they will help to reduce migration of timeline for your email account.
During
- All email accounts will continue to be able to receive/send emails
- Receiving/Sending emails will experience slight delays
- Brief period of inaccessibly to https://sunywccmail.sunywcc.edu or via the Outlook client may be experienced.
After
- You may receive a prompt to re-enter your password to your desktop
- You will need to delete and re-add your account your mobile device
- Email / Webmail Access can now be accessed at https://outlook.com
- Microsoft Office 365 applications can now be accessed at https://portal.office.com
- Login with your UserID@sunywcc.edu & MyWCC password
- Review tutorials on Microsoft’s website, and report any issues to the IT Helpdesk, 914-606-6665.

Setup Outlook on your phone or mobile device:
Please note: Due to security concerns the College does not allow third party E-mail Apps. The mobile Outlook app or a web browser should be used to connect to College Email from your mobile device.
Installing Outlook on an Android Phone
- On your mobile device, go to the Google Play Store and install the Microsoft Outlook app.
- Open the app after it is installed.
- Tap “Get Started”
- Enter your USERID@sunywcc.edu email address and then tap continue
- Enter your password and tap “Sign In”
- Tap “Maybe Later” when prompted to add another account
- Review the features or tap SKIP
- Your email setup is now complete
Install Outlook on an iPhone
- On your mobile device, go to the App Store and install the Microsoft Outlook app.
- Open the app after it is installed.
- Enter your USERID@sunywcc.edu email address and then tap “Add Account”
- Enter your password and tap “Sign In”
- Accept any prompts for permission you may receive
- Review the features or tap SKIP
- Your email setup is now complete
Office 365 Applications
Office 365 includes applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, but it also allows for additional applications to be utilized. Learn about each application below, and access the tools at Portal.office.com.
Outlook
Outlook on the web is the browser-based email client for users to access email, calendars, tasks and contacts from Microsoft’s on-premises Exchange Server and cloud-based Exchange Online.
OneNote
OneNote lets you take digital notes while collaborating with colleagues, students, and more. Notes can incorporate drawings, photos, and text and are seamlessly accessible on multiple devices.
Sway
Create interactive reports, newsletters, and presentations using Sway’s powerful design tools. Sway’s built-in design engine takes the guesswork out of formatting while giving you the ability to customize presentations to fit your needs.
Teams
Teams provides a chat space for colleagues to share and discuss ideas both through threaded chats and integrated video and voice conversations. Working alongside other Office 365 applications, Teams can bring in documents or projects from other applications to be viewed and discussed. Forms
Microsoft Forms allows users to create surveys, polls and quizzes with automatic marking. It can be used to create quizzes, collect feedback from teachers and parents, or plan class and staff activities
Planner
Microsoft Planner is a project management application developed by Microsoft that allows teams to create, assign and organize work visually.
To-Do
To-Do is a task management application. It allows you to create lists and tasks to help you stay organized. You will be able to manage your tasks from a smartphone, tablet and computer.
