Geode Display
Westchester Community College’s good friend and longtime supporter, Bob Wiener has been collecting geodes for more than 40 years. His personal collection numbers more than 2,000 exquisite specimens, from all over the world. A portion of Mr. Wiener’s geode collection is currently on display in the Atrium of the Science Building. This display is yet another example of Bob’s generosity to the students, who have benefited tremendously from the scholarships he supports.
Geodes are rocks that are formed in a hole in the earth or in the bubble of a volcano which develop crystals at their center. They are buried in veins of rock hundreds of feet below the earth’s surface, solidly entrenched in less beautiful rock, and have to be extracted by cutting, hammering, and even blasting.
It is Bob’s hope that the splendor of the variety and origins of these specimens remind students that there is beauty in diversity, and everyone is unique!
Sorry, nothing found.
