New Rochelle Residence Park Residence Park is one of the earliest residential parks containing excellent examples of Queen Anne and Shingle style homes. We will also see a John Russell Pope designed church, a college with an 1855 Gothic “castle,” the homes of notable residents such as Lou Gehrig, playwright Robert Anderson, Jay Leno, a presidential mistress, and more. Sat., July 15, 9:30-11:30 am. #9332 OFF-SITE Architectural History Tour of Newburgh This day-long walking tour will include a visit to Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, the Crawford House Museum, and a tour of Newburgh's many other iconic buildings. Designers such as Downing, Vaux, Olmsted, Withers, and others will be discussed. We will also examine the tragic period of Urban Renewal when many buildings were lost along with the preservation movement that prevented further destruction in the 1960s and 70s. Westchester Poetry Workshop The Westchester Poetry Workshop meets online weekly for eight sessions and is focused on the understanding, writing, and publishing /marketing of poetry. Student poets will mix with veteran and published poets and engage with Guest Poets to further their knowledge of and confidence in the writing, presentation, submission and publishing of poetry. Class features will include explanation of poetical styles and techniques with readings, readings by Guest Poets, student poetry writing and comment /courteous criticism of the writing by Guest Poets and fellow students. The importance of Poetry Groups—in-person and online, publishing opportunities with methodologies, promotion of published work, and dealing with rejections will also be discussed. Various locations throughout the local area will be selected. Rain dates TBA. Focus will be on color mixing, light and shadow, and composition. Students will be informed of the great plein air traditions of the Impressionists and the Hudson River School painters. Make a portrait print based on a photograph, drawing from observation, and imagination. Printmaking projects include tee shirts, posters, and artwork to frame.
