Advanced Digital Photography SUNY Westchester Peekskill ● 27 North Division Street Peekskill NY 10566 ● 914-606-7300 Part 1: Finding the Story in the Environment The Advanced Digital Photography course will get started with a review of exposure and camera control, followed by shooting assignments with a concentration on finding the story in the chosen environment, be it landscape, street, or indoor photography. In-the-field shoots will be planned. We will review post-processing in Lightroom and learn new tools for masking and making adjustment selections based on tone and color. Photo critiques will occur throughout the semester, with an eye on creating an advanced portfolio. Photo-shoots will be in-person and critique reviews will be remote. CE-DGART 2126PE, $569. Thurs., Sept. 7-Dec. 14 (skip 11/23), 6:30-9:30 pm. Part 2: Focus on Lighting Advanced Digital Photography continues with a concentration on lighting. Studio photo sessions will center on subjects such as tabletop arrangements, small object and food photography, and on to portrait shoots with a live model. We will then learn new tools and procedures using Photoshop for advanced retouching, including selection tools and layer masks. Students will prepare select images for printing, as well as an advanced personal portfolio. Photo-shoots will be in-person and critique reviews will be remote. CE-DGART 2127PE, $569. Advanced Digital Photography Did you complete the Digital Photography Certificate or are you a capable photographer looking for a community with other photographers and to advance your skills? The Advanced Digital Photography series is for students who are post certificate or have received instructor permission. Students will expand on their technical and storytelling capabilities with hands-on technical training. These courses are hybrid (remote and in-person): Photo-shoots will be both outdoors and onsite, taking advantage of the extensive resources and specialized facility at the Center for the Digital Arts. Software-based review sessions will be remote on Zoom. Students may register for either course but are highly encouraged to sign up for both. www.sunywcc.edu/advanced-digital-photography Upcoming Spring 2024 Certificates Certificate in User Experience Design (UX) — 64 Hrs User Experience Design is an online non-credit certificate that prepares graduates for working in interactive technologies and provides them with industry literacy through applied practice. The program will offer a foundation in user experience strategies, design thinking, and interactive design. Students will acquire skills in user research, site-mapping, wire-framing, prototyping, web programming, UX Career Development, etc. Students can also complete a portfolio course where they will create finished examples of their work to show prospective employers facilitated by a professional industry UX designer. Prerequisite: Basic computer experience. Students must register for the entire program at time of registration. This program will focus on design principles and front-end programming using languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Students will Learn to use tools like Chrome Devtools, Adobe Photoshop, and Dreamweaver. Students will be utilizing the design thinking process to work as a collaborative web development team, prototype, and to evaluate, and test a finished portfolio piece. Portfolio pieces will be online websites ready for professional use. Students must register for the entire program at time of registration.
