You can rsvp for an information session or campus tour on that site. Those requesting a group tour for a school or organization should be referred to Admissions. When can I apply to Westchester Community College? Students should be encouraged to apply as early as possible. Please note that any applicant needing a placement questionnaire MUST submit their application in sufficient time to be able to take the placement questionnaire (please see placement questionnaire info. below). Students must apply online at www.sunywcc.edu/apply. Approximately one week after applying, you will be mailed an acceptance letter and sent an email with your student ID from the College’s automated CRM communication system. What documents do I need to submit to apply to a degree or certificate program at Westchester Community College? The application contains a checklist of all necessary items that are required to complete the admissions process. Please also see: Admissions Information Checklist - SUNY Westchester Community College (sunywcc.edu). If you have never taken a class at the college, you must: 1. Apply online at www.sunywcc.edu/apply. The online application includes an application fee that is paid by credit card. The application fee is $50. 2. Submit proof of high school graduation. All applicants must have their high school send an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. Official transcripts must be emailed by the high school to HSTranscript@sunywcc.edu . Unofficial high school transcripts are not accepted. If an official high school transcript with date of graduation cannot be sent from the high school, students must bring their original high school diploma to the Admissions Office. High School Equivalency diploma recipients as well as students who are unable to get an official copy of their high school transcript must bring their original GED diploma and scores. 3. Transfer Students who have attended a prior college must have their College email an official college transcript to: eTrans@sunywcc.edu . If the College is unable to email it, it can also be mailed by the College to our Registrar’s Office.
4. If taking 6 or more credits, you must submit a Combined Immunization/Meningitis Form (available at www.sunywcc.edu/immunizations) (note that the Immunization part of the form only applies to students born after 1/1/57; the Meningitis part of the form applies to all ages taking 6 or more credits). Please see www.sunywcc.edu/immunizations for information on how to submit your immunization records. Note that if you can’t access your immunization records, your doctor can complete the form with results of a titer (blood test) showing that you have had the required immunizations. Please note that if you submit your proof of immunizations on a form other than the College form referenced above, you will still need to sign the meningitis declination if you have not received that vaccine. You cannot register for more than 5 credits until your immunization/meningitis form has been submitted. 5. If you enroll as a matriculated student, you must take the Westchester Community College Placement Questionnaires or meet the appropriate waiver requirements. For information on Testing Waivers based on previous College credit, SAT/ACT/Regents scores, and high school GPA, please visit the Testing & Assessment Center’s webpage at www.sunywcc.edu/testingcenter I studied at Westchester Community College in the past, but haven’t taken classes in a while. What do I need to do for readmission? Returning students can generally register online through MyWCC if they have attended the College within the last 2 years. If it’s been more than 2 years (but less than 7), students must contact the Registrar’s Office at Registrar@sunywcc.edu to have their account reactivated. If a student has not taken classes for 7 years or more, he or she will need to apply again. Students who have been out more than 7 years will also need to submit proof of high school graduation again. They will not need to pay the application fee again, and will not need to submit immunizations provided that they submitted the full immunization form initially – they can check with the Health Office if they are not sure. Please note: students applying after 7+ years can fill out the online application. Please note the following: if the online application is seen as a potential duplicate, the online application process will not proceed to the payment screen. Rather, upon completing the application, a “Thank You for your Application”-type message is displayed to the prospective student. This application will then be subject to review by the Admissions Office and if the record is determined to be a duplicate, the application will be processed without the fee. If it is determined not to be a duplicate, or if the student did not pay the fee the first time they applied, the Admissions Office will process the application and the application fee will be added to the student’s tuition. I applied for a previous semester, but I did not register. Now I want to take classes this coming semester. What do I need to do? If you applied up to two years ago but did not attend, you need to email the Admissions Office to have your application ‘term activated’. Students who applied more than two years ago will need to submit a new application with transcripts. Who must submit an application to the College? All students taking any credit course(s) (even if they are a visiting student) must submit an application. Can I fill out my application online? Yes, all students must apply online at this time – visit www.sunywcc.edu/apply to complete the application online. What is the application fee? There is an application fee of $50 and it should be submitted with the application; a credit card payment of the application fee is required in order to submit the application online. Please note that veterans and their spouses are exempt from the application fee. They should complete the Veterans question on the online application to get the fee waiver. Note: falsifying this information may result in a dismissal of the application. Is there any way to waive the application fee? Veterans and their spouses are waived from the application fee. At this time, all other students may be able to get an application fee wavier by attending one of Admissions virtual or in-person Information Sessions. For dates, times, and to RSVP, please see www.sunywcc.edu/visit In addition, students from participating high schools who apply through the SUNY Community College Direct admission initiative will receive an application fee waiver; please note that only students who are contacted by SUNY regarding this initiative will receive this offer. I am having trouble applying online- a sign-on screen is appearing when I click on the link for the online application. I don’t have logon information. What should I do? If you are getting an Oracle sign-on screen when you try to apply online, you’ll to clear your browser cache. Make sure to clear the cache for ‘all time’. For instructions on how to clear your browser cache, please see www.sunywcc.edu/apply . After you clear your cache and try in a new window, this sign-on screen should no longer appear and it should proceed to the online application. How can I submit proof of high school graduation? All applicants must have their high school send an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. Official transcripts may be emailed by the high school to HSTranscript@sunywcc.edu . Unofficial high school transcripts are not accepted. In order to be matriculated at the college the student must meet the following conditions: 1. Possess a local or Regent’s High School diploma (an IEP “diploma” is not acceptable as proof of high school graduation) OR possess a high school equivalency diploma (GED)
AND 2. Be formally admitted and pursuing courses leading to a degree or certificate. Non-Matriculated- A non-matriculated student is one who submits an application and enrolls in classes without the intention of earning a degree or certificate. Please note, non-matriculated students are not eligible for financial aid. How can a student change his/her status from non-matriculated to matriculated? Please contact Admissions@sunywcc.edu for information on making this change. Please note, in order to change your status from non-matriculated to matriculated, students must submit proof of high school graduation (i.e. official final high school transcript with date of graduation or original high school diploma/GED with scores). Am I required to see a counselor before I register for classes? All new matriculated (degree-seeking) students must meet with an Academic Counselor in order to be able to register for classes. Returning students with a GPA less than 2.0 should also meet with an Academic Counselor before registering. Students can meet with an Academic Counselor virtually by signing in at www.sunywcc.edu/getadvised or in-person per the information at www.sunywcc.edu/counseling Where/When can I receive counseling? What are the requirements to get into the College’s nursing program? Admission to the College’s Nursing Program is competitive and is based on the results of an entrance exam - the TEAS Exam Version 7. The TEAS exam is given every spring and fall semester. In order to qualify to take the TEAS exam, a student must have placed into College-level English and Math (or have successfully completed any necessary developmental classes) and must have completed high school Biology and Chemistry with a lab (or the College equivalent courses of BIO 101 or 103 AND CHEM 113) within the last 10 years. It is also highly recommended, but not required, that a student complete Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 prior to taking the TEAS. In order to apply to take the TEAS exam (offered in March for Fall Admission and in October for Spring Admission), a student must first submit a regular application to the College by the deadline on Admissions’ website and then complete a TEAS Registration form. The top scorers on the exam are then selected by the Nursing Department to comprise the upcoming nursing class. To prepare for the TEAS exam, a review book is available at the College’s bookstore or on the publisher’s website (www.atitesting.com). For more information about nursing admissions and the TEAS exam process, students can attend one of the Admissions Office’s Nursing Information Sessions listed at www.sunywcc.edu/visit and can visit www.sunywcc.edu/nursing and click on the ‘Nursing Admissions Information Page’ link. PLACEMENT EXAMS How do I take the placement questionnaires? New matriculated students who have or will have a high school diploma by the time they begin courses at Westchester Community College are being administered two placement questionnaires that they complete at home on a computer or mobile device. One questionnaire is for English and Reading, and the other is for Math. New students are automatically sent the Self-Directed Placement Questionnaires to their College email address one business day after they complete the online ‘Let’s Get Started’ module. If a student does not receive BOTH questionnaires, they should email testingcenter@sunywcc.edu for assistance. Students should also check their spam/junk mail folders. Who needs to take the placement questionnaires? Matriculated Students: All new matriculated students must take the placement questionnaires unless they meet the waiver criteria. Please see www.sunywcc.edu/testingcenter and click on ‘How to Waive the Placement Requirements’ for information on waiver criteria. What is the purpose of the placement questionnaires? The purpose of the placement questionnaires is to provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to succeed in college and to determine which English, Mathematics and possibly Reading courses you will be taking in your first semester at WCC. You cannot “pass” or “fail,” but it is important that you answer the Questionnaires honestly to be placed into appropriate level courses. When you meet with your counselor you will be able to discuss your long-range goals and plan your course of study. The questionnaires will ask students about their academic history, study habits, and specific course content. For content-based questions, students will first indicate their comfort level with the material before answering related test questions on those topics. Students should be reminded to take their time with the questionnaires and answer all questions to the best of their ability. They should complete the questionnaires in a quiet space where they can focus, without receiving any outside help. For the Math DSP, students may use a calculator to assist them in answering the questions. *Students who have not graduated from high school or earned a GED/HSE diploma and students who possess an IEP diploma will be required to meet certain minimum score requirements on the placement exam (ATB Exam) before being admitted to the New York State Department of Education 24 Credit Hour GED program (see Admissions section) What information will I need to take the placement questionnaires? You will need your 9-digit Westchester Community College Student ID number. This number is emailed to new students after their applications are processed. If you don’t know your student ID number, please email MyWCCHelpdesk@sunywcc.edu
Do Non-Matriculated Students need to complete placement? No, unless they are attempting to place into a higher-level mathematics course. The Registrar’s Office and Academic Affairs has adopted a policy that will waive all non-matriculated students into gateway college level courses. Non-matriculated students will receive college level waivers for English, Reading, and Math. If a student matriculates from non-matriculated, they should be assessed, and the non-matriculated waivers removed. In these cases, it is recommended the student directly reaches out to the Testing and Assessment Center for assistance. However, a non-matriculated student who wishes to take a higher-level mathematics course (Pre-Calculus or Calculus) must meet appropriate course pre-requisites or waivers. If they do not, they may take the Advanced Algebra Functions (AAF) exam to place directly into those courses. How are English Language Institute students placed? Students that take courses through the English Language Institute (ELI) will receive a placement recommendation at the completion of their ESL program with the assistance of Justin Smith, ELI Director. To contact the English Language Institute about your next steps for placement, please go to www.sunywcc.edu/esl and fill out the ‘ESL Pathways to College’ link on the left, where you can complete an interest form. ELI students may request the Math Directed Self-Placement Questionnaire directly from the Testing and Assessment Center by emailing Testingcenter@sunywcc.edu. They should attach the recommended placements received by the ELI department and indicate they would like to complete the Math DSP. The Testing Center will send them only the math portion of the DSP to complete. Are any groups of students still required to take placement tests instead of the questionnaires? Yes. The following groups of students are still required to take regular placement tests: - Non-high school graduates applying into the College’s 24-credit GED program - Students with a foreign high school diploma who are applying for New York State Financial Aid (TAP) - Early Admit Students who want to take classes while still in high school and do not meet placement waivers (see Admissions section. For testing exemptions for Early Admit Students, please see below) - New matriculated high school graduates wishing to place directly into Calculus or Precalculus or select chemistry courses (Chem 107 or Chem 111). - Students who disagree with the results of their placement questionnaires and would like to take a Challenge exam. Students in the above groups can schedule their remote exam at www.sunywcc.edu/testingcenter In addition, students may schedule an appointment for on-campus testing at the main campus. The Testing Center is taking walk-in testing appointments, but it is highly recommended students reach out to the Testing Center via email or phone to schedule an appointment. Students may test in-person at the Testing Center Monday to Friday with an arrival time between 8:30am and 1:00pm. Later arrival times may be available depending on the exam that the student needs to take. Students taking the ACCUPLACER placement exams
(ATB, Challenge Exams, AAF) are required to show photo ID before sitting for a placement exam. Acceptable forms of photo identification include: a current driver’s license, current state-approved ID, middle school ID, high school ID, college ID, current federal ID, current passport, tribal ID, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship. You can sign in to speak with an Academic Counselor remotely at www.sunywcc.edu/getadvised . Students may also visit an Academic Counselor in-person and should visit www.sunywcc.edu/counseling for more information. After completing the questionnaires, you must wait one business day before speaking with an Academic Counselor who will be able to view your results. What if I disagree with the results of my placement questionnaires? If you disagree with the results of your placement questionnaires, you may request to take a proctored Challenge Exam. The Challenge Exam is the Next Generation Accuplacer. To request a proctored Challenge Exam, please go to www.sunywcc.edu/testingcenter and click on ‘Additional Placement Services’. Please note that valid photo ID is required. Challenge exams may be scheduled virtually over zoom or in-person at the Valhalla campus. Students that wish to change their placement from a college level course to a developmental or co-requisite course may complete a Change of Placement Request. This is to be completed with the assistance of an Academic Counselor. Please have the student discuss with an academic counselor. You are allowed to attempt a challenge exam a maximum of two times before the start of the academic semester, with a total limit of three attempts within an academic year. May you be reassessed once you have taken a course in a discipline? No, after you have attempted a course within a specific academic discipline, you will not be eligible for further retesting in that subject area unless granted special permission from that academic department. Placement for Chem 107 and Chem 111 Students interested in taking Chem 107 and Chem 111 who do not meet other prerequisites may take the Advanced Algebra and Functions Exam. Students that receive a Math placement of Math 42.01 by receiving an AAF score of 260 or higher are eligible to take Chem 107 or Chem 111.
Registrar/Registration Where is the Registrar’s Office? On the Valhalla campus, in the Administration Building, first floor, Room 107. Their mailing address is: Westchester Community College ADM 107 75 Grasslands Road Valhalla, NY 10595 ATTN: Registrar Registrar’s Office Contact Information Phone: (914)606-6810, Email: registrar@sunywcc.edu Email is the best way to contact the Registrar’s Office. Students must use their WCC email address when contacting the Registrar’s Office so the Registrar’s Office can verify their identity. GENERAL REGISTRATION QUESTIONS When is registration and when is the last day to register? For dates, please see www.sunywcc.edu/academiccalendar What are the beginning and ending dates of the semester, the dates for refunds, or the dates to withdraw? These dates are also posted on www.sunywcc.edu/academiccalendar I’ve taken classes in the past and I want to come back. What do I need to do? Returning students (those who have taken at least 1 credit at the College in the past) should be able to register online through MyWCC if they have attended the College within the last 2 years. If it has been more than 2 years (but less than 7), students should email the Registrar’s Office at registrar@sunywcc.edu in order to be reactivated. Emails should be sent from the student’s WCC email account. To be reactivated, students should provide their student ID, date of birth and last 4 digits of their social security number so the Registrar’s can review their account. Please note that if a student has already graduated from Westchester Community College, he or she will need to contact the Registrar’s Office to fill out a 2nd degree form. If it has been more than 7 years, students must fill out a new Admissions application online at www.sunywcc.edu/apply. New students who filled out an application in the past but never took classes will have to email the Admissions Office to have their account activated for the upcoming term. Where can I access the course catalog and the current schedule of classes? The Course Catalog is currently available online at https://catalog.sunywcc.edu Alternatively, on the website, you can select “Academics” and then “Course Catalog”. The course catalog has information on all of the College’s degree and certificate programs; it also contains course descriptions and prerequisite requirements.
The catalog is available online only; printed copies of the catalog are no longer published. To access the current schedule of classes on the College website, go to https://mywcc.sunywcc.edu and select ‘Class Search- Credit Classes’. What registration services are available online through MyWCC? You can search for, add, drop, or swap* classes through College Scheduler. To search for, register, swap or drop classes, log into your MyWCC account, click on ‘Student Self-Service Center’ and click on the ‘College Scheduler’ tile. For more information on how to use College Scheduler, please see: www.sunywcc.edu/college-scheduler or go to www.sunywcc.edu/registrar and click on ‘How-To’ Guides and ‘How to Enroll in Classes’. *To swap a class means that the class you are registered for will only be dropped if you can get into the new class you are trying to register for. This way, you will not potentially lose your spot in your original class if the class you want is not available. A “swap” is when you are a changing a course on your schedule for another course within the same semester and session for the equal number of credits. By selecting ‘swap’, one course will replace the other through the end of the semester’s add/ drop period. Note: New, degree-seeking (non-transfer) students must meet with an academic counselor before they can register online – please see ‘Academic Counseling’ section for details. I’m having trouble accessing my MyWCC account. Who should I contact? Please contact MyWCCHelpdesk@sunywcc.edu for assistance. When I click on the ‘Student Self-Service’ tile on my MyWCC account, I get an Oracle sign on screen and my regular logon information doesn’t work. What should I do? You should clear your browser cache for ‘all time’ and then open a new window and type in the full mywcc.sunywcc.edu address rather than using a bookmarked site. This sign-on screen should no longer appear afterwards. For instructions on how to clear your browser cache, please see mywcc.sunywcc.edu . Nothing happens when I click on the ‘Let’s Get Started’ or ‘College Scheduler’ tiles. What should I do? Please turn off your browser’s pop-up blocker and click on the tile again. It should then allow you to proceed. I need help registering for classes with College Scheduler. Who can assist? If you already know what class you need to register for, the College’s Success Navigators can assist students who need help registering in College Scheduler. Please sign on to www.sunywcc.edu/helpregister during their business hours to request assistance and a Navigator will get back to you- hours are listed on the site. Navigators are also available for walk-in in-person assistance on the 2nd floor of the Student Center at the hours listed on the site above. I’m a transfer student. How do I get my credits from my other college(s) transferred to WCC?
