Commonly Asked Questions

What are the requirements to get into the College’s nursing program? Admission to the College’s Nursing Program is competitive and is based on the results of an entrance exam - the TEAS Exam Version 7. The TEAS exam is given every spring and fall semester. In order to qualify to take the TEAS exam, a student must have placed into College-level English and Math (or have successfully completed any necessary developmental classes) and must have completed high school Biology and Chemistry with a lab (or the College equivalent courses of BIO 101 or 103 AND CHEM 113) within the last 10 years. It is also highly recommended, but not required, that a student complete Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 prior to taking the TEAS. In order to apply to take the TEAS exam (offered in March for Fall Admission and in October for Spring Admission), a student must first submit a regular application to the College by the deadline on Admissions’ website and then complete a TEAS Registration form. The top scorers on the exam are then selected by the Nursing Department to comprise the upcoming nursing class. To prepare for the TEAS exam, a review book is available at the College’s bookstore or on the publisher’s website (www.atitesting.com). For more information about nursing admissions and the TEAS exam process, students can attend one of the Admissions Office’s Nursing Information Sessions listed at www.sunywcc.edu/visit and can visit www.sunywcc.edu/nursing and click on the ‘Nursing Admissions Information Page’ link. What are the requirements to get into the College’s Radiologic Technology or Respiratory Care programs? The College’s Radiologic Technology program is a competitive program and starts every September. There is a separate application that is due in March. The College’s Respiratory Care program has a wait list – those who are on the list will be offered a spot if they remain in good academic standing, but the length of the wait is variable. For more information about each program and its Admissions requirements, please select the appropriate program under the ‘Academic Programs’ list on the College website. How do I apply to the College as an F-1 international student? F- 1 international students either apply to come from their home countries with an F-1 student visa, change their status from here in the US or transfer from another college on their existing F-1 status. For deadlines and more information on attending the College as an F-1 International Student, please visit www.sunywcc.edu/international.
