Please note that claiming education tax benefits is a voluntary decision for those who may qualify. It is up to each taxpayer to determine eligibility for the credits and how to calculate them. Students with questions regarding their eligibility for education tax credits should be referred an accountant, financial advisor, or the IRS website. Accessing Form 1098-T Students can access their 1098-T form on their MyWCC account. Log in to your MyWCC account and select the ‘Student Self-Service Center’ tile. Select the ‘Financial Account’ tile, click on ‘Account Services’ on the left and then on ‘View 1098-T’ to select the appropriate tax year. I have a hold on my account saying that my social security number/ITIN is invalid. What do I need to do? The College is required to issue 1098-T tax forms to students in credit classes; these forms contain the student’s ITIN, which in most cases is his/her social security number. Sometimes a student does not provide his/her social security number or the number provided is incorrect. In these cases, a Bursar’s hold for ‘Invalid SSN/ITIN’ will be placed on the student’s record, which will prevent the student from registering, ordering transcripts, or graduating. In order to have this hold removed, students in credit classes (including ECE and Youth Symphony) can provide their social security number to the College by completing a W9-S form (complete part 1 only) and submitting it to the Bursar’s Office. The form is available online at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9s.pdf or can be emailed to the student from the Bursar’s Office. Completed forms can be submitted to the Bursar’s Office at Bursar@sunywcc.edu If a student chooses not to provide his/her social security number or if he/she has applied for an ITIN and is waiting to receive it, he/she can complete the ITIN/SSN refusal or pending form, as appropriate, and submit it to the Bursar’s Office to have the hold removed.
