In this two-part series, we’ll be exploring a genre that commands popular appeal around the world: wedding films. The hero in these stories (usually a woman) holds center stage in a drama about romance, relationships, responsibility and sometimes politics. In Session One, we’ll be looking at American varieties of the genre, including The Wedding Planner (2001), Father of the Bride (1950 and 1991), Sex and the City (2008), Bridesmaids (2011), and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002).
