Advanced Digital Photography The Advanced Digital Photography hybrid series is for students who are post-certificate or have received instructor permission. These students will continue to investigate digital photography and further their skills. Part 1 is a pre-requisite for Part 2. These courses are hybrid (remote and in-person), taking advantage of the vast resources and specialized facility at the Center for the Digital Arts, Peekskill Extension Center. To register for these classes, you must call 914-606-7300 or email peekskill@sunywcc.edu HYBRID Part 1: finding the story in the environment The Advanced Digital Photography course will get started with a review of exposure and camera control, followed by shooting assignments with a concentration on finding the story in the chosen environment, be it landscape, street, or event photography. In-the-field shoots will be planned. We will review post-processing in Lightroom and learn new tools for masking and making adjustment selections based on tone and color. Photo critiques will occur throughout the semester, with an eye on creating an advanced portfolio. Remote and in-person schedule to be determined. At Peekskill Extension Center: CE-DGART 2126PE, 14 Thurs., Sept. 8-Dec. 15 (skip 11/24), 6:30-9:30 pm, $550. HYBRID Part 2: focus on lighting Advanced Digital Photography continues with an initial concentration on lighting, both natural and artificial, where students can choose to focus on portrait or small object photography, including in-person shoots with a live model. We will then learn new tools and procedures using Photoshop for advanced retouching, including selection tools and layer masks. Students will prepare select images for printing. Best work will be chosen for the Spring 2024 Student Art Exhibit, as well as an advanced personal portfolio. Remote and in-person schedule to be determined. At Peekskill Extension Center: CE-DGART 2127PE, 14 Thurs., Jan. 26-Apr. 27, 2023, 6:30-9:30 pm, $550. NEW! Web Design Certificate Program-64 Hrs This is a non-credit remote synchronous certificate program, beginning in the fall. This program will focus on design principles and front-end programming using languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Students will learn to use tools like Chrome Devtools, Adobe Photoshop, and Dreamweaver. Students will be utilizing the design thinking process to work as a collaborative web development team, prototype, and to evaluate, and test a finished portfolio piece. Portfolio pieces will be online websites ready for professional use. Students must register for the entire program at time of registration. Register for the entire certificate for $1,350! This course will cover topics like user personas, sitemaps, journey maps, wireframes, and how to design a mock-up using the Adobe Creative Suite. This course will be your introduction to building websites. CE-DGART 2140PE, 8 T/TH, Sept. 13-Oct. 6, 6:30-8:30 pm. Coding Responsive & Interactive Websites Go deeper into CSS and designing websites for different screen sizes and layouts. You will explore topics like responsive front-end frameworks, floats, positioning, flexbox, grid, web typography, and media queries. You will also learn the basics of JavaScript to add interactive elements to your website. CE-DGART 2142PE, 8 T/TH, Nov. 8-Dec. 6 (skip 11/24), 6:30-8:30 pm. Custom WordPress Website Learn how to design and develop a fully customizable WordPress website. You will explore topics like WordPress Themes and Child Themes, Plugins, Widgets, custom CSS, the WordPress admin/dashboard, and domain and hosting. You will use this WordPress Website project to include all the work you have created in the certificate program to use as your portfolio to show potential clients. CE-DGART 2143PE, 8 T/TH, Dec. 8-Jan. 12, 2023, (skip 12/22/2022 - 1/2/2023), 6:30-8:30 pm. Coding HTML & CSS Learn how the web is structured and how to style it. First, you will learn the anatomy of HTML, HTML documents, elements, tables, attributes, and how to embed images and multimedia. Then you will learn to style the web with CSS (Cascading Style sheet). You will explore topics such as CSS Selectors, the box model, backgrounds and borders, styling text, and layouts. You will also learn how to debug HTML elements using the DOM inspector tool.
