Who
is eligible to use the services of the Career & Transfer Center?
All students and former students, enrolled in credit and non-credit
courses, are eligible to use all the services of the Center, for free,
for life. In addition, immediate family members of staff and faculty are
welcome to use the Center.
How
does the Career & Transfer Center serve our diverse population?
We recognize and believe that all students should have access to the
services and resources of the Career & Transfer Center. The college
population reflects the growing diversity of Westchester County. Here
are some of the ways we serve this diverse student body.
-
The Center is open late (7:30 pm) one evening per week, September –
June.
-
Counselors are willing to visit early morning and evening classes as
well as off-campus extension sites.
-
Our extensive website provides helpful information for students who
cannot visit our offices.
-
Many students are being helped via phone and email.
For
General Career & Transfer Help
Our website and print material is a good beginning for students to learn about
our services and programs. Students are able to view and download career,
educational, training, and employment information from our website. Our
calendar of events is viewable, as are the handbooks for resume writing and
interviewing skills. The site also provides links to career and transfer
resources on the Web.
Students seeking individual appointments with counselors for Career &
Transfer assistance should be directed to our office in the Student
Center Building, Room 201. They can also call for an appointment at
(914-606-6760).

Referring a Student to the Cooperative Education/Internship Program
As a
faculty member at Westchester Community College you play a crucial role
in referring students for the Cooperative Education/Internship Program.
You are in an excellent position to assess a student’s readiness and
appropriateness for a placement. (In fact, students need a
recommendation from a faculty member as part of the application
process.) In many instances we need referrals from the teaching faculty
as placement opportunities come in. So working together, we can optimize
placement opportunities for students. In the departments where students
can earn academic credit for their placement, faculty act as advisors
and mentors while the students are working.
