Distance Learning Enrollment Procedure

 

Guide for Students Who Have Never Taken a Course
at Westchester Community College and
Want to Enroll in Online Distance Learning Courses

  • It is your responsibility to follow the procedures 1 - 7 as outlined below
  • Please read this guide several times before contacting our office with any questions
  • We will send you emails as your application/registration/payment is processed 
  • Please monitor your email: read and respond when needed 
  • Always include your full name and the last 4 digits of your social security numbers in all emails sent to us

1.        Choose your Distance Learning Courses.

 

Our Online schedule of Instruction is available online at http://www.sunywcc.edu/dl/courses.

Courses are identified by a 4-digit number called the reference number. An open course does not guarantee a seat. You have to register to have a seat. Click here for Course availability.

Note that some Online distance learning courses:

  • Science courses may require students to register for an on-campus lab
  • Classes may have prerequisites and, if so, you will need proof that they have been met
  • May be “hybrids” and require weekly attendance on-campus
  • Classes may require proctored exams
2.        Fax a Admissions Application to the Distance Learning office and other forms if required .
 

To download the admission application click here and select the correct semester application.

Fax the application to (914) 606-8550 along with a cover sheet listing the courses you are interested in.

If enrolling for more then 5 credits the Immunization form is required. For more info click here.

The Proof of Immunization Form and the Meningococcal Meningitis Response Form are combined in a single document available at http://www.sunywcc.edu/regforms Fax to the Distance Learning office at 914-606-8550.  Be sure to fill in the information required at the top and sign at the bottom of Part I.  The Nurse's office needs to be able to telephone you if there is a question.

If you are a New York State resident living outside of Westchester County, you must submit a Certificate of Residence. For more info click here.

Once you receive a signed Certificate of Residence from the finance office of your home county, fax a copy to the DL office and then mail the original (not a copy) to us.  The original must be received no later than 30 days after the start of the semester.  See the end of this document for the mailing address.

Note: if you are unable to obtain a certificate of residence by the time payment is required, you have the option of paying out-of-county rates and sending in the certificate and a request for refund later.  The original must be here within 30 days of the start of the semester.  Contact the DL office; the refund request form can be emailed to you and faxed back to the office.

If you are pursuing a degree in WCC Proof of High School Completion is required.

All applicants must request that an official high school transcript be sent directly to Westchester Community College.  Current high school students must submit an official final transcript or copy of the diploma upon graduation. GED recipients must submit an official copy of their GED. Unofficial transcripts should be faxed in as part of the application package. Official transcripts should be requested and be forwarded directly to the Office of Admissions. For more info click here

Prerequisites are requiements that need to be completed prior to taking a particular class. Proof of satisified prerequisites must be received prior to enrollment in the course. We accept Unofficial transcripts, they should be faxed in with the application package. Official transcripts should be requested and be forwarded directly to the Office of Admissions.

Note: Mathematics and English courses require Placement Tests unless you have taken college-level mathematics or English at another college. Placement tests may be taken as soon as you are notified by the Distance Learning Office that the application package is complete. Please schedule the Placement Test at: 914-606-6969.

Notify the DL office by Email distance.learning@sunywcc.edu as soon as you have taken the test so that we may proceed with your registration. Write "Placement test completed" in the subject line and be sure to include your full name. You must email us or you will not be registered!

After you have faxed the documents above E-mail the DL office at distance.learning@sunywcc.edu. Be sure to write "application faxed" in the subject line and include the following in the email itself.

a. your full name

b. mailing address (street, city, state, zip code)

c. your day and evening telephone numbers

d. the courses you are interested in

3. Once you receive an email stating your Application Package has been processed, call us 914-606-6827
 

Once you receive an e-mail stating your application has been processed and promting you to call us at 914-606-6827 only then you may register. Be sure to have the course names and their corresponding 4-digit reference number available before calling. 

Once registration is complete a bill will be generated for you. Prompt payment will ensure your enrollment in the courses in which you have registered. Students who do not pay by certain dates, known as purge dates, will be removed from their courses. Ask for purge dates when registering.

 

4. Pay your bill. You have 3 payment options.
 

Wait 24 hours after you registered to access your bill and Pay online (Student ID= Social Sec #. PIN = DOB 'MMDDYY'). To pay click here

Pay in person at the Bursar's Office (Valhalla Campus, Amin Bldg. Room 125)

Or

Mail a check (if time permits) to:

Be sure to write your social security number in the memo field. If you are close to the date students will be dropped for nonpayment, don’t mail your check to the Bursar’s office because if you are no longer in the course when the check arrives it will be returned to you. Instead, send the check (by overnight mail if necessary) to Vikki Liverpool, Distance Learning Office, Library, Westchester Community College, 75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla, NY 10595

5. Complete the mandatory online orientation for new students. More info on the Online Orientation click here
 

Login to Blackboard CE (User Name: first 4 letters of last name follow by the first letter of first name follow by last 4 digist of your social security number. Password: same as User Name.) The Online orientation will be available 2-3 weeks before the first day of the semester. Your course will be available on the 1st day of the semester. However, the instructor may decide to make it available earlier. If you don’t see your course listed on the 1st day contact the DL office.

6. Check for course requirement.
 

Login to Blackboard CE (User Name: first 4 letters of last name follow by the first letter of first name follow by last 4 digist of your social security number. Password: same as User Name.) click on your Online course and check for course requirements (e.g. textbooks, software, proctored exams)

You may obtain your textbooks from the WCC Bookstore at the Valhalla campus or by telephone at 914-606-6475 (have course name and ref. number ready) or Online click here

7.Access your course on the 1st day of the semester at Blackboard CE.
  All Fall and Spring online courses begin on the first day of the semester. Summer online courses begin 1 week after the start of summer session 1 and run for 6 or 9 weeks.
