Guide for Students Who Have Never Taken a Course
at Westchester Community College and
Want to Enroll in Online Online Education Courses

  • It is your responsibility to follow the procedures 1 - 10 as outlined below
  • Please read this guide several times before contacting our office with any questions
  • Please monitor your email: read and respond when needed 
  • Always include your full name and the last 4 digits of your social security numbers in all emails sent to us

  Choose your Online Education Courses.

Our Online schedule of Instruction is available online at http://www.sunywcc.edu/dl/courses.

Courses are identified by a 4-digit number called the reference number. An open course does not guarantee a seat. You have to register AND pay to have a seat. Click here for Course availability.

Note that some Online courses have special requirements:

  • Science courses may require students to register for an on-campus lab
  • Classes may have prerequisites and, if so, you will need proof that they have been met
  • May be “hybrids” and require weekly attendance on-campus
  • Classes may require proctored exams

Download the admission application click here and select the correct semester application.

3. Health Forms.return to checklist

If you are enrolling for more then 5 credits the Immunization form is required as part of your APPLICATION PACKAGE. For more info click here. If registering for 5 credits or less you DO NOT need this form.

The Proof of Immunization Form and the Meningococcal Meningitis Response Form are combined in a single document available at http://www.sunywcc.edu/regforms. Be sure to fill in the information required at the top and sign at the bottom of Part I. The Nurse's office needs to be able to telephone you if there is a question.

4. Certificate of Residence form. return to checklist

If you are a New York State resident living outside of Westchester County, you must submit a Certificate of Residence as part of your APPLICATION PACKAGE . For more info click here. If you live in Westchester county you DO NOT need this form.

Once you receive a signed Certificate of Residence from the finance office of your home county, fax a copy to the Online Education office and then mail the original (not a copy) to us.  The original must be received no later than 30 days after the start of the semester.

Note: if you are unable to obtain a certificate of residence by the time payment is required, you have the option of paying out-of-county rates and sending in the certificate and a request for refund later.  The original must be here within 30 days of the start of the semester.  Contact the Online Education office; the refund request form can be emailed to you and faxed back to the office.

 

5. If and only if you are pursuing a degree in WCC Proof of High School Completion is required. return to checklist

If you are planning to take a course/s and transfer the credits to another college you
DO NOT need proof of High School or GED.

Students that are pursuing a degree in WCC and who have never attended college must request that an official high school transcript be sent directly to Westchester Community College.  Current high school students must submit an official final transcript or copy of the diploma upon graduation. GED recipients must submit an official copy of their GED. Unofficial transcripts should be faxed in as part of the application package. Official transcripts should be requested and be forwarded directly to the Office of Admissions. For more info click here

6. If a course has a Prerequisite you need show proof that satisfies the prerequisite: return to checklist

Check for course prerequisites requirements

If the course you want to take has a prerequisite, you need to show proof that you have taken the prerequisite. You may fax Unofficial transcripts as proof. We also accept Official transcripts, they should be requested from your college and be forwarded directly to our Office of Admissions. Proof of satisified prerequisites must be received prior to enrollment in the course.

Note: Mathematics and English courses require Placement Tests unless you have taken college-level mathematics or English at another college. Placement tests may be taken as soon as you are notified by the Online Education Office that the application package is complete. For more information or to schedule a placement test click here

Notify the Online Education office by Email online.education@sunywcc.edu as soon as you have taken the test so that we may proceed with your registration. Write "Placement test completed" in the subject line and be sure to include your full name. You must email us or you will not be registered!

7. Fax the APPLICATION PACKAGE to (914) 606-8550

After you have faxed the application package please wait 3 to 5 business days. The Online Education office will e-mail you to inform you when the package has been processed. Proceed to step 8.

8. Pay your bill

pay your bill. You have 3 payment options.

Wait 24 hours after you registered to access your bill and Pay online (Student ID= Social Sec #. PIN = DOB 'MMDDYY'). To pay click here  

Or

Pay in person at the Bursar's Office (Valhalla Campus, Amin Bldg. Room 125)

Or

Mail a check (if time permits) to:

Be sure to write your social security number in the memo field. If you are close to the date students will be dropped for nonpayment, mail your check to the Bursar’s office by overnight mail if necessary because if you are no longer in the course when the check arrives it will be returned to you. 

9. Check for course requirements.

Some of the Online courses have a public webpage where you can find more information about the course e.g. book requirement. This public web page is not available in all online courses. To view the webpage click the link below and look for the course category, course subject and look for the 4 digit reference number and name of the course:

  • Select one of the categories from the Course List (eg Accounting,) select your course level (e.g. Accounting 119) and click the Expand Button image on the left to expand the list and view the courses

Note: Some courses require the students to take oncampus midterms and/or finals!

10.Complete the mandatory online orientation for new students. More info on the Online Orientation.
This online orientation will get your computer ready for Blackboard CE (User Name: first 4 letters of last name follow by the first letter of first name follow by last 4 digist of your social security number. Password: same as User Name.) and will also show you how and when to login to Blackboard CE. Your course will be available on the 1st day of the semester. However, the instructor may decide to make it available earlier. If you don’t see your course listed on the 1st day contact the Online Education office.
