Registration Information

HOW TO REGISTER:
Center for the Arts is well known for its small class sizes and individualized instruction. Many classes fill quickly and close, so please register early. You can register by mail or come in person to the Center for the Arts office in White Plains. For more Registration Information, please call 914-606-7500.

Registration for Center for the Arts classes can be accepted on the main campus (Valhalla) of Westchester Community College for full-time students only. Part-time students must register and pay all fees and tuition at the Center for the Arts in White Plains.

A minimum enrollment is required for each class to be held.

Some art supplies for our classes may be purchased at the Center. New students should call the office for materials lists.

Mail Registration
Completely fill out the Registration Application and Certificate of Residence Application. Mail all forms with a check or money order (made payable to the Center for the Arts) for the full payment of tuition and fees to:

PARKING:
Students pay a parking rate of $5.00 to park in the lots directly in front of the County Center and across the Bronx River Parkway.

GRADES AND TRANSCRIPTS: Classes at Westchester Community College Center for the Arts may be taken on a credit or non-credit basis, for the same price.

Non-Credit: On the first day of class, students fill out an Audit Request form. Students audit the class, a grade is not given, and the class cannot be applied toward a degree. Student transcripts say “non-credit.”

For Credit: Students are automatically enrolled for a grade, for credit, and throughout the semester will be required to fulfill rigorous academic requirements (attendance, completion of projects, etc.). Students may receive a transcript for transferable credit. For transcripts, call Westchester Community College at (914) 606-6810.

IMMUNIZATION:
All students born on or after January 1, 1957 enrolling for six or more credits must provide proof of immunity from Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) and a second measles injection or two MMR’s. Regardless of age, all students enrolled for six or more credits also must read the Meningococcal Meningitis fact sheet and sign the response form indicating whether or not the meningitis vaccine was received. Call for more information: 914-606-7500. Students will not be allowed to register without proof of immunization.

CERTIFICATE OF RESIDENCE:
NYS residents whose legal residence is not Westchester County must present a Certificate of Residence signed by the Chief Fiscal Officer of their county of residence at the time of registration. The certificate may be obtained from the appropriate county office building. If the certificate is not presented at the time of registration, the student must pay a higher fee. RESIDENT TUITION:
Conditions a student must meet to pay resident tuition: Must be a resident of New York State for at least one year, and must also be a permanent resident of Westchester County for at least six months; or must be a resident of New York State for 1 year and have a Certificate of Residency issued by the Chief Fiscal Officer of their home county in New York State. New York State Residents whose legal residence is not Westchester County MUST present a Certificate of Residence signed by the Chief Fiscal Officer of their county of residence at the time of registration, or pay the non-resident tuition rate. Students who have resided in more than one county in New York State during the last six months must obtain a Certificate of Residence from each county. A signed Certificate is valid for one year (September through August). Students who live outside of New York State must pay non-resident tuition.

TUITION AND FEES:
Westchester Community College Center for the Arts is partially supported by the State University of New York through Westchester Community College. Tuition for non-credit classes and seminars, plus materials and fees, are listed in the brochure where applicable. Lab fees are also listed where applicable. Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice. Cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover are accepted.


The following mandatory fees apply to part-time study at WCC Center for the Arts only and are paid three times a year: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer:

Student Fee: $5.75 – Helps defray the cost of accident insurance coverage for each student, including those enrolled at off-campus sites. This fee is submitted directly to Westchester Community College’s insurance carrier.

Cultural Arts Fee: $10.00 – Helps to underwrite the cost of WCC sponsored cultural events on the Valhalla campus & at off-campus sites which are open to the general public. This includes the lectures and seminars offered every semester at a reduced rate for enrolled students.

Equipment Fee: $25.00 – Establishes a fund to be used for updating and replacing equipment, such as computers, on the Valhalla and off-campus sites.

REFUNDS:
To receive a refund, students must officially drop a course and complete a Refund Request Form. The office will only process refund forms received in person or through the mail. The Student Application Fee is non-refundable even when a class is cancelled. All other fees are 100% refundable if students drop a course prior to the start of semester. If a student drops a course and requests a refund after the start of the semester, they will be returned only a percentage of their tuition (no fees), according to the following schedules. No tuition will be refunded after that.

Winter and Summer Semesters
100% If class is cancelled or dropped before first day of semester.
25% During the first week of semester.

Fall Semester (2-credit only)
100% If class is cancelled or dropped before first day of semester.
25% (tuition only) during the first week of the semester

Fall semesters (3-credit only)
100% If class is cancelled or dropped before first day of semester.
75% (tuition only) during the first week of semester.
50% (tuition only) during the second week of the semester.
25% (tuition only) during the third week of the semester.

Children’s Classes
100% If class is cancelled or dropped before first day of semester.
50% During first week of the semester.

Special Seminars
100% If workshop is cancelled, or if requested at least 1 week before workshop.

Refund requests must be made in writing or in person.

LAB TIME & INDEPENDENT STUDY:
Lab time is available to currently enrolled students, for a small fee, whenever appropriate studio space is available. Non-darkroom studio use, up to one half hour before or after the class, is available at no charge, when scheduling permits. Beyond half an hour, lab time fees are charged. Policies and fees vary by studio. Ceramics, Drawing/Painting, Jewelry/Lapidary and non-machinery use of the Sculpture studio are available at $2.50 per hour. Color darkroom classes include a limited number of lab time hours. If scheduling permits, additional time in the color darkroom can be arranged at a flat rate for the semester. There is no limit on lab time for students in the black and white darkroom.

AGE REQUIREMENT:
For Credit classes, student must be at least 18 years of age or a senior in high school.
