Watercolor and Abstraction
Instructor: Josette Urso
Friday, March 13, 10am – 4pm
$100 + $8.25 reg. fee

Seen as a vehicle for exploration, this course is appropriate for students of all levels. For the beginner, it serves a superb introduction to the often elusive medium of watercolor. For the more advanced student, abstraction provides a special focus for technique and concept. Students will explore the layering of washes and the exploration of form and color. Working from observation, memory and invention students will be encouraged to push the limits of the medium. Discover the history and various motivations for abstract image making.

Lightroom Workshop

Learn to use LightRoom, a photography software for organizing your photos. This one day workshop will cover converting raw files, cataloging images, enhancing the digital image, outputting images to various file formats, and presentation techniques.

Fast and Furious Figures in Clay

2-Day Intensive
Friday, Saturday April 17, 18 10am – 4pm
$200 + $20 materials fee + $8.25 reg. fee

Take advantage of this wonderful fast paced opportunity to sculpt a figure in clay completed in one weekend. Learn the basics of developing a clay figure from a dramatic and dynamic pose. Work in a stylized manner or realistically. Students will be encouraged to be creative and expressive and finish a piece in 48 hours. Topics covered will include basic anatomy, gesture, choosing optimal tools, and technical problems related to the medium of clay. Instructor will arrange for the firing of the finished pieces at the conclusion of class, and will discuss strategies for applying appropriate patinas. Open to artists on all levels. Prior experience with the figure and clay construction is recommended but not required.

Create a beautiful gemstone set ring in one day! This fast-paced workshop will take you through all the steps to create a unique ring, and give you the skills to get into more complex jewelry design. We will cover basic jewelry-making techniques such as sawing, forming, soldering, and stone-setting. We will emphasize finishing techniques to make your piece look truly polished and professional. Time permitting, you’ll be able to make another ring or earrings, too. Gemstones will be provided by the instructor.

Monitored life drawing session offered to all (no instructor). Free; donations accepted. Open to the public and all enrolled students. No pre-registration.

Almost all art starts out with drawing as the first step. From quick sketches to detailed compositions, this class will cover the basics of shading, crosshatching, proportion and size.

Expand your knowledge of drawing. Gain skills by using soft and hard pencils, charcoal and other materials. This is a level 2 class, some drawing experience is necessary.

Learn to use colored pencils and other media to blend and mix tones, shades, and values in your drawings. Subjects covered will be landscapes, portraits, and florals but experimentation with other ideas is welcome. Some drawing experience necessary.

This class is suitable for students who know the basics of watercolor painting but want to further develop their skills. Color mixing and individual projects will be emphasized.

Move beyond the traditional watercolor painting by adding decorative papers, pastels, oil crayons, and other media to the paper. The result will be a unique and personal work of art.

An introduction to the materials, composition, and
fundamentals of painting using acrylics or oil paints.

All levels are welcome in this handbuilding and wheelthrowing ceramics class. Explore making functional pottery forms, such as bowls, cups, vases, etc.

Explore contemporary approaches to life painting. A variety of materials such as watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel etc. will be discussed and demonstrated. One pose per session.

This introductory course will explore basic beading techniques. Students will learn to make jewelry pieces using seed beads of different sizes, shapes and materials. No experience needed. A materials list will be provided upon registration.

An introduction to sculpting from a live model in clay. Topics will include proportion, facial features, basic anatomy and expression.

This class is an introduction to printmaking techniques.  Students will explore monotype, woodcut, linocut, collograph and dry point. Through practice and experimentation, students will learn to find the appropriate printing techniques to express their ideas.
