VIRGIL 2.5: Online Research Tutorial

Finding Articles

The MLA format for creating an article citation is more complex for an article found on a online subscription database than it is for a citation for an article found in the magazine, jounal or newspaper where it was originally printed.

The basic difference is that the citation for an article found on an online subscription database must include the library where the database was accessed, the date it was accessed, and the URL address of the database.

Listed below are format templates and citation examples for articles from magazines, professional journals, and newspapers, showing the proper format for both found in online subscription databases, and found in the original print version. When doing your own citations, copy the format of the appropriate example.
