SUNY Innovation Resources at the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies


The State University of New York is coordinating system-wide programs and services for innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development through its Power of SUNY initiative.  A major focus of the future of SUNY is to develop SUNY’s role as an economic driver across New York State. 
 
SUNY offers a variety of primary programs and services across SUNY academia and institutions to pursue this focus, which have been mapped by the SUNY Research Foundation in “SUNY Research Concentrations by Economic Development Region and “NY Works” Industry Type”.

Energy and Nanotechnology (CLEAN)
Collaboration for Leveraging Energy and Nanotechnology Program (CLEAN) is a partnership between UA, Marist College, New Energy New York (NENY) coalition members and NYS government agencies with a focus on alternative energy technologies.
 
The East Campus Biotech Business Incubator
High-tech tenants include bioscience, chemical and nanotechnology emerging firms.  The Center for Functional Genomics provides research services to tenants.
 
Center of Excellence in Nanoelectronics (CNSE)
Full integration for emerging generations of integrated circuitry, nanoelectronics and nanotechnology.  Affiliated with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY University at Albany.  CNSE is a world leader in nanotechnology and microtechnology.  CNSE features leading research and state-of-the-art facilities.
 
Center for Advanced Technology in Nanomaterials and Nanoelectronics
CATN2 is a collaboration between research universities and such NYS industry clusters as nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, telecommunications, defense and nanobiotechnology.  Affiliated with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY University at Albany.  CNSE is a world leader in nanotechnology and microtechnology.  CNSE features leading research and state-of-the-art facilities.
 
Center for Semiconductor Research
CSR provides full vertical integration for nanochip production and research on development of computer chip technology nodes.  Partners include IBM, Advanced Micro Devices, SONY, Toshiba and Applied Materials.  Affiliated with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY University at Albany.  CNSE is a world leader in nanotechnology and microtechnology.  CNSE features leading research and state-of-the-art facilities.
 
Center for Nanoscale Lithography
Partnership between CNSE and Vistec Lithography, Inc., to develop Vistec's E-beam lithography technology.  Affiliated with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY University at Albany.  CNSE is a world leader in nanotechnology and microtechnology.  CNSE features leading research and state-of-the-art facilities.
 
Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery and Exploration
INDEX is one of five nanoelectronics research institutes in the United States, collaborating with researchers from major universities and corporations.
 
Nanotechnology Innovation and Commercialization Excelerator
CNSE collaboration with Lockheed Martin and the CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity (CenterState CEO).  Located in Salina, NY.  Plans include assisting nanotechnology firms in the upstate NY cluster.  Affiliated with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY University at Albany.  CNSE is a world leader in nanotechnology and microtechnology.  CNSE features leading research and state-of-the-art facilities.
 
Smart System Technology and Commercialization Center (STC)
Merger of Infotonics Technology Center (ITC) in Canandaigua and the Center of Excellence in Nanoelectronics and Nanotechnology to create initiatives in global smart system and smart device innovation and manufacturing.  Affiliated with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY University at Albany.  CNSE is a world leader in nanotechnology and microtechnology.  CNSE features leading research and state-of-the-art facilities.

Low-cost rent and business support services for emerging high-tech firms with BU roots.
 
Center of Excellence in Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging (S3IP)
Focus on microelectronics R&D through collaborations with academia, industry and government.
 
Integrated Electronics Engineering Center
Focus on electronics packaging research.
 
Center for Advanced Microelectronics Manufacturing
Affiliated with BU’s S3IP.  Focus on large area flexible electronics.  Partnership between Binghamton University, Endicott Interconnect Technologies, Cornell University, Flex Tech Alliance.
 

 
University at Buffalo
 
UB Downtown Biomedical Incubator
Emerging biotech and bioscience firms will be located in the UB Clinical and Translational Research Center and share space with the Buffalo General Hospital Emergency Department and the Global Vascular Institute.  Projected opening in April 2012.
 
UB Technology Incubator
Emerging technology-based firms have access to wet lab space, UB facilities and resources, and more.  More than sixty tenants and graduates have participated since 1988 with a 75% survival rate.
 
Innovation Center
Emerging life sciences and biotech companies participating in Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.  Proximity to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo General Hospital, Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, and other life sciences and health-related companies.
 
Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences
Developing disease management devices and processes, including technology innovation.  Partners include major academic and research institutions.
 
CAT in Biomedical and Bioengineering Technologies
Developing disease management devices and processes, including technology innovation.  Partners include major academic and research institutions. 

CUBRC, Inc.
Calspan-University of Buffalo Research Center features a variety of R&D, testing and research for several major industries, including a state-of-the-art wind tunnel facility.



Downstate Medical
 
Advanced Biotechnology Incubator
Supports emerging biotech companies with access to Downstate Medical Center’s facilities and programs as part of the Downstate Biotechnology Park.
 
BioBAT
Supports biotech firms seeking expansion and manufacturing opportunities at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

Long Island High Tech Incubator (LIHTI)
Supports emerging high-tech companies.  More than 70 companies have been launched in 16 years with reportedly a high survival rate.
 
Stony Brook Incubator (Calverton)
Economic focus on the East End of Long Island with emerging technologies in agriculture, aquaculture and environmental technologies.
 
Center of Excellence in Wireless & Information Technology
CEWIT is a research and educational facility with nearly 200 students specializing in next generation information technology.
 
Center for Biotechnology
CFB focuses on the development of diagnostic and therapeutic technologies through collaborations with partners in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, while supporting industry and academia research.
 
Brookhaven National Lab (Dept. of Energy, Battelle Memorial Institute)
BNL is one of ten facilities that are funded by the U. S. Department of Energy.  BNL is home to  a wide variety of energy, environmental and security projects, including seven initiatives that won Nobel Prizes.
