About The Westchester Art Workshop
Courses may be taken for creative expression, on a credit or non-credit basis. Credit earned may be applied toward an associate degree, a certificate in computer arts 36 credits), or a certificate in applied art through Westchester Community College. The certificate in applied art is a 30 credit studio intensive program intended to assist the artist/craftsperson in building a professional portfolio or in establishing an art related business. College credit in all courses is fully transferable to 2, 4, or 5 year art degree programs. White Plains/Westchester Art Workshop's twelve studios are among the best designed in the country. Large windows, high ceilings, color corrected lighting, individual exhaust system, air conditioning and heating controls in every studio, and state of the art equipment, make the facilities conducive to creativity in a pleasant atmosphere. Specialized technicians insure that the studios are always properly maintained. The school is a case study in how technology has been used to create an ideal environment for producing art, while eliminating art hazards. The facility is accessible to the handicapped. Peekskill/Westchester Art Workshop includes multiple art studios and a state of the art Computer Center with both Graphic Arts and Multimedia labs. The Computer Center uses the Apple Power Macintosh, among Apple's newest and fastest computers, which are specifically designed for sound and motion. In addition, there are slide and flatbed color scanners; laser, dye sublimation and inkjet color printers; and other advanced peripherals. The Westchester Art Workshop also operates the Westchester Gallery at both locations.
